Few shows on Prime Video have achieved the level of consistency that ‘Reacher‘ has demonstrated over the past few years. Alan Ritchson’s adaptation of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels debuted in 2022 and has become one of the platform’s most dependable hits, combining strong reviews with a loyal audience that returns season after season.

This momentum has now resulted in an early renewal for the series. On Monday, Prime Video announced that ‘Reacher’ has been renewed for Season 6, a decision made while Season 5 is still in production. This marks the second renewal for the show this year, as Season 5 was ordered back in May, months before Season 4 even premiered.

The renewal follows another impressive performance from Season 4. Amazon reported that the eight-episode season attracted 66 million viewers globally within 28 days of its August 12 launch, with the finale airing on September 16. According to Amazon, Season 4 now ranks among the top 5 most-viewed seasons of any original series on Prime Video.

This places it in elite company. Seasons 2, 3, and 4 are the platform’s three most-watched returning seasons ever, with Seasons 2 and 4 among the top 5 most-viewed seasons of any original series in Prime Video history, alongside the first seasons of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ and ‘Fallout’. Overall, the show has reached over 200 million viewers worldwide since its inception.

Part of what makes the show’s performance notable is its global audience reach. More than half, 58%, of Season 4’s viewers came from outside the United States, with particularly strong numbers in the UK, Germany, and Brazil.

Domestically, the show has also performed well. It achieved its fifth consecutive billion-minute weekly viewership tally on Nielsen’s streaming rankings, finishing at No. 1 in four of those five weeks.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, described the renewal as a testament to the franchise’s strength. “‘Reacher’ hits hard. What Lee Child has built and Nick Santora and his creative teams have brought to life is, simply, incredible,” he told Variety. He praised Alan Ritchson, stating, “He’s delivered a performance that has captivated audiences around the world,” and referred to the series as “a truly iconic series.”

With this renewal, ‘Reacher’ becomes Prime Video’s second longest-running scripted series, following ‘Bosch’ and tied with ‘Invincible’, which has also been renewed for a sixth season.

Season 5 is currently filming in Toronto and is based on ‘Make Me’, the 20th book in Child’s series. The plot follows Reacher as he arrives in the small town of Mother’s Rest, where he teams up with private investigator Michelle Chang to investigate a missing-person case that escalates into something much more perilous.

The season has welcomed new cast members including Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, Amanda Ip, and Ciara Bravo. Nick Santora continues as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, collaborating with Child and Ritchson, who also serve as executive producers.

The renewal comes shortly after Prime Video launched the first season of the spinoff ‘Neagley’, starring Maria Sten, which premiered on September 16 alongside the Season 4 finale. The spinoff quickly became a success in its own right, briefly surpassing ‘Reacher’ on Prime Video’s viewership charts.

There is currently no information on which book will be adapted for Season 6, but given Amazon’s proactive approach, fans can expect updates soon. For a franchise built on relentless momentum, both on-screen and off, this pace is fitting.
