Owen Wilson’s golf comedy ‘Stick’ emerged as one of Apple TV’s delightful surprises last year, capturing the same found-family charm that made ‘Ted Lasso’ a cultural phenomenon. With ‘Ted Lasso’ wrapping up its fourth season, Apple is gearing up for its next feel-good sports comedy, and the timing is perfect.

The next chapter is finally upon us. Apple TV has unveiled the first teaser, revealing exciting details about Season 2, which is set to bring in some impressive talent to enhance its cast.

The teaser confirms that Rhea Seehorn will be joining the cast of ‘Stick’ Season 2 alongside Owen Wilson. Apple TV announced this casting news along with the premiere date, which is scheduled for November 4, featuring two episodes at launch, followed by weekly releases of one new episode until December 30.

Seehorn, renowned for her Emmy-nominated performance in ‘Better Call Saul’ and her recent role in ‘Pluribus,’ will portray Amanda, a new golf coach collaborating with Wilson’s character, Pryce Cahill. Her involvement adds a significant dramatic element to a series that has primarily focused on comedic ensemble dynamics.

‘Stick’ centers around Pryce, a former professional golfer whose career ended prematurely two decades ago, as he rebuilds his life by mentoring a teenage golf prodigy named Santi, played by Peter Dager. Season 1 explored their evolving relationship as Santi aspired to a future in professional golf, concluding with hints that Pryce might return to competitive play.

Season 2 picks up on that narrative thread, following Pryce’s quest for an improbable comeback as he aims to become the oldest golfer to win a major, a goal that forces him to confront the reasons his initial career fell short. Seehorn’s Amanda steps in as his new coach for this journey, working alongside Marc Maron’s returning caddie character, Mitts.

The returning ensemble includes Peter Dager, Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, Lilli Kay, Judy Greer, and Timothy Olyphant, whose character Clark Ross is expected to play a role in encouraging Pryce’s comeback. New cast members joining Seehorn include John Higgins, Billy Zane, Rex Linn, Sasha Alexander, and Missi Pyle, expanding Season 2’s cast significantly compared to its first season.

The show is also enhancing its golf-world authenticity for the new season. Real broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman are set to make guest appearances, along with Good Good’s Matt Scharff and golf writer Dan Rapaport, continuing the blend of real sports personalities that helped ground Season 1’s narrative.

With a total of 10 episodes on the way and a cast that now combines comedic talents with dramatic heavyweights like Seehorn, ‘Stick’ seems poised to embrace a larger, more ambitious version of itself for its sophomore season. Fans eager to see if the show can carry Apple’s sports-comedy legacy forward now that ‘Ted Lasso’ has concluded won’t have to wait long, as the new season is set to tee off this November.
