British actor Rupert Everett has openly shared his disappointment regarding his sudden departure from the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris. The 66-year-old actor, who appeared in the fourth season, claims he was let go without any clear explanation.

Everett played Giorgio Barbieri, a Rome-based interior designer and an old friend of the character Sylvie Grateau. He believed this role would lead to a more significant part in the upcoming fifth season, but things did not go as planned.

In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, the actor revealed how deeply the rejection affected him. He stated that he spent two weeks in bed because he simply could not get over the news.

According to Everett, he had already filmed a scene for the new season when he was told they would talk later. However, that follow-up call never came, and he was eventually informed that he would not be returning.

He described the experience as a tragedy for him personally, noting how brutal show business can be. The actor lamented that writers often seem enthusiastic about a character initially, only to change their minds and discard the role entirely.

Despite his version of events, sources close to the production have offered a different perspective. An insider reportedly clarified that Everett was always intended to be a guest star and that his character’s storyline had simply reached its natural conclusion.

It remains to be seen how the show will address his absence as the story moves forward between Paris and Rome. Fans of the series will have to wait for the new episodes to see how the remaining cast handles the latest drama.

We would love to hear if you think his character deserved more screen time, so please share your thoughts in the comments.
