When movies get a re-release, it is usually some time after their original theatrical run. It can be a short amount of time to boost the film’s financials or chances before an award ceremony, or it could be a special anniversary re-release that comes years or even decades after the original release.

It is, thus, rare for a movie to get a re-release while it can still be seen in cinemas around the world, but that is what is happening with Sinners. The movie, is namely, getting a special re-release on May 15, 2025.

What is so special about this re-release? Well, the re-release won’t be like the regular release, but rather – a special, IMAX 70mm version of the film will be released in a select number (only nine) of theaters in North America.

The theaters are City Walk Stadium 19 + IMAX (Los Angeles), Irvine Spectrum and IMAX (Irvine), Lincoln Square 13 + IMAX (New York), Metreon 16 + IMAX (San Francisco), Indiana State Museum (Indianapolis), Arizona Mills IMAX (Phoenix), Autonation IMAX (Ft. Lauderdale), Webb Chapel IMAX (Dallas) and Colossus IMAX (Toronto).

“Audiences have spoken and we listened. If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible larger-than-life format, it’s Sinners. Ryan has delivered a film that has been embraced by fans who appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating a film for this screen-filling format and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see it—or see it again—in 70mm IMAX,” Jeff Goldstein, the president of global distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures, said to the press.

The special edition will only be shown until May 21, 2025, so be sure to grab your tickets while you still can!
