The action franchise ‘S.W.A.T.’ is set to embark on a new chapter, and fans can now find out where to catch it. The upcoming spinoff series ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ has officially secured its U.S. home with Starz, which has announced a premiere date in September.

This 10-episode series will debut on Starz on September 25, featuring Shemar Moore reprising his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. In this new installment, Hondo is drawn back into action after a forced retirement.

As reported by Deadline, Starz will be the exclusive U.S. home for the new series, while Sony Pictures Television has already arranged international distribution deals in major markets worldwide. The show will air weekly on Fridays and will also be accessible via the Starz app and the network’s streaming platforms.

Moore expressed his enthusiasm for the new series, thanking the team behind the franchise for continuing the narrative. “’S.W.A.T. Exiles’ is coming in hot! I couldn’t be more excited that Starz is bringing this next chapter to audiences in the U.S,” he stated.

He further added, “A huge thank you to Sony Pictures Television for believing in this franchise and continuing to invest in what we’ve built together.”

The new series will follow Hondo as he leads a different kind of S.W.A.T. team. After a significant mission goes awry, he is tasked with heading a new experimental unit comprised of younger recruits with minimal experience. Hondo’s challenge will be to transform this group of outsiders into a cohesive team while safeguarding the future of the S.W.A.T. program.

The cast features Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein. Fans of the original series will also see familiar faces, including Jay Harrington returning as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks. David Lim will reprise his role as Victor Tan.

Starz president Alison Hoffman stated that the series aligns perfectly with the network due to the franchise’s dedicated audience. “’S.W.A.T. Exiles’ engages a deeply passionate fanbase that aligns strongly with our audience,” Hoffman remarked. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Sony to be the first place U.S. fans can experience this thrilling new chapter in the franchise.”

Jason Ning serves as the showrunner and executive producer, alongside executive producers Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Shemar Moore, James Scura, and Jon Cowan. Sony Pictures Television will produce and distribute the series globally.

The spinoff follows a long journey for the original ‘S.W.A.T.’ series, which premiered on CBS in 2017 and faced multiple cancellations before concluding after its eighth season. Shortly after the final cancellation, Sony announced plans to continue the franchise with ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles,’ with Moore returning as the face of the new series.

Production moved swiftly, with the show being developed, cast, and filmed in under a year. Filming concluded in February 2026, and the first episode was later presented to international buyers as Sony sought distribution partners.

With Starz officially backing the series, ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ is set to continue the franchise with a new team, fresh challenges, and the return of one of its most beloved characters when it premieres this September.
