Sam Rockwell Pitches An MCU Collaboration With His ‘White Lotus’ Costar Walton Goggins
Sam Rockwell and Walton Goggins recently shared the screen in the latest season of ‘The White Lotus’ and this pairing has sparked significant interest among fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both actors have played memorable villains in the franchise over the years while establishing themselves as fan favorites. Rockwell portrayed the charismatic weapons manufacturer Justin Hammer in the film ‘Iron Man 2’. Goggins appeared as the tech dealer Sonny Burch in ‘Ant Man and the Wasp’ where he attempted to steal quantum technology. These two characters are uniquely positioned within the world of corporate espionage and black market weapon sales.
During a recent discussion with interviewer Liam Crowley about his new movie ‘Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die’, Rockwell shared his thoughts on a possible reunion within a superhero setting. He admitted that he was not initially aware of the specific role his colleague played in the Marvel world before the conversation began. Upon learning about the character of Sonny Burch and his background in the tech industry, he expressed immediate enthusiasm for a villainous partnership. Rockwell noted that teaming up as bad guys would be a natural and fun direction for both of them to take given their previous work together. He also seemed genuinely surprised to hear that the project ‘Armor Wars’ is still progressing through various development stages.
The project known as ‘Armor Wars’ was originally conceived as a television series for the streaming platform Disney Plus before transitioning into a feature film. Don Cheadle is set to return as James Rhodes to lead the story which focuses on millions of dollars in Stark technology falling into the wrong hands. Recent reports from various industry sources have indicated that Goggins might reprise his role as Burch in this specific production. This news makes the possibility of a collaboration with Rockwell feel much more grounded in reality for the audience. Fans have long campaigned for the return of Justin Hammer because of his distinct personality and his complicated history with the Stark legacy.
Justin Hammer was last seen in a brief appearance during the short film ‘All Hail the King’ while he was serving time in prison. Many viewers believe he would be the perfect fit for a narrative centered on stolen industrial secrets and high tech weaponry. Combining his corporate greed with the black market expertise of Sonny Burch could create a formidable threat for the heroes to face. Both characters are known for their comedic timing and opportunistic natures which would likely translate well to a shared screen experience. Rockwell has often stated that he is very open to returning to the role if the right opportunity or script arises.
The actor mentioned that he considers the character of Hammer to be a very fun one to inhabit for any performer. He even compared the potential for character growth to a personal version of Lex Luthor within this expansive cinematic universe. While nothing is officially confirmed regarding a joint appearance between the two actors, the creative chemistry between the stars is already well proven. Their work on ‘The White Lotus’ demonstrated how well they play off each other in a high pressure and competitive environment. Marvel fans will certainly be keeping a close eye on any future casting updates for the upcoming movie as it moves forward.
