Film festival season serves a dual purpose: promoting the movie and igniting fashion debates for the week. Scarlett Johansson’s stunning Prada ensemble at the ‘Paper Tiger‘ premiere exemplifies this perfectly.

The premiere was significant as ‘Paper Tiger’, a crime drama featuring Johansson alongside Adam Driver and Miles Teller, marked the opening of the New York Film Festival. This event kicked off the festival’s 64th edition and brought to life a story set in New York.

At Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, the two-time Oscar nominee opted for a business-chic look in Prada. Her sleeveless onyx-gray mini dress featured a slightly ruched boat neckline, embodying the “office siren” trend that gained traction on TikTok in late 2024.

This Prada mohair dress, reportedly priced at around $3,200, was paired with strappy silver heels, a softly waved blonde bob, and bold red lipstick. A light pink Prada bag added a subtle pop of color, while Sophie Bille Brahe’s diamond-set Promenade earrings framed her face without overshadowing the dress.

Johansson was accompanied by her husband Colin Jost, marking their first joint red carpet appearance in over a year. The couple coordinated their outfits, with Jost donning a gray check suit, pink shirt, and maroon tie, perfectly complementing Johansson’s dress.

This appearance continued a longstanding collaboration, adding another chapter to Johansson’s fashion partnership with Prada. She previously starred in a Prada Galleria bag campaign directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, shot in September 2025.

Choosing Prada for a New York premiere was fitting, as it provided a polished, workplace-ready look that resonated with the film’s themes and the local audience.

The night also marked a long-awaited reunion for Johansson, who missed the film’s Cannes debut due to another project. This was her first opportunity to view the movie in a festival context, arriving jet-lagged after a long flight.

During the post-screening Q&A, she humorously remarked on her condition, as reported by Variety, saying, “I’m hallucinating.” She also playfully referenced Cannes, joking about skipping the French Riviera.

Directed by James Gray, ‘Paper Tiger’ is set in 1986 and follows two brothers, one of whom becomes embroiled with the Russian mob after a scheme to clean up the Gowanus Canal. Johansson portrays the wife of Teller’s character.

Gray has mentioned that the story is loosely inspired by his family’s experiences with the Russian mafia in 1980s New York. This film marks his first project since ‘Armageddon Time’.

Early reviews are promising, with the film holding an 85% average critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 60 reviews. Discussions of potential awards have emerged, with mentions of Teller for Best Actor, Driver for Best Supporting Actor, and Johansson for Best Supporting Actress.

The festival opener was a delight for film enthusiasts, as Neon presented each opening night screening in 35mm. For those eager to see it, Neon has scheduled a limited release for November 13, followed by a wider release on November 20.

While the fashion conversation may soon fade, Johansson’s outfit achieved its goal of generating buzz around the film.
