‘The Ghost in the Shell’ anime series from Science SARU has released a new trailer, confirming the show’s arrival date.

Produced by Science SARU, the studio behind acclaimed works like Devilman Crybaby and Dan Da Dan, the trailer offers another glimpse into the cyberpunk universe and announces that the anime will debut on July 7 on Prime Video.

Before its streaming premiere, the first two episodes will have an early world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2026. This screening will be part of a special event titled “Dive into ‘The Ghost in the Shell’,” featuring appearances from members of the creative team who will discuss the production.

The series is directed by Mokochan, who previously served as assistant director on Dan Da Dan. The production team includes Shuhei Handa as character designer and chief animation director, with music composed by Taisei Iwasaki, Ryo Konishi, and YUKI KANESAKA, with Iwasaki also acting as music director.

Returning to the story of Major Motoko Kusanagi and Public Security Section 9, known as the Shell Squad, the trailer showcases cybercrime investigations, large-scale action sequences, and teases the enigmatic hacker known as the Puppet Master. The setting remains faithful to the original timeline, situated in a near-future world where technology and global networks influence daily life.

Based on the original manga by Masamune Shirow, The Ghost in the Shell has seen numerous adaptations over the years. The 1995 animated film is the most renowned version, while the 2017 live-action film featuring Scarlett Johansson received mixed reviews.

With its new trailer and confirmed release date, the 2026 anime series aims to offer a fresh perspective on this enduring cyberpunk franchise while captivating a new generation of fans.
