Netflix has exciting news for fans of the classic mystery-solving gang with its upcoming live-action series based on ‘Scooby-Doo’. The streamer has cast Mckenna Grace in the role of a young Daphne Blake. This eight-episode show serves as a modern reimagining that explores how the members of Mystery Inc. first came together. Grace steps into the part of the stylish and adventurous Daphne in what promises to be a fresh take on the beloved franchise.

The story centers on the gang’s origins during their final summer at camp. Old friends Shaggy and Daphne find themselves caught up in a spooky mystery involving a lonely lost Great Dane puppy. This pup might have witnessed a supernatural murder which draws them into a chilling adventure. They team up with the practical and science-minded townie Velma plus the oddly handsome newcomer Freddy to unravel the case. The haunting events threaten to reveal hidden secrets about each of them.

Mckenna Grace brings plenty of experience to the character having previously voiced a younger Daphne in the animated movie ‘Scoob!’ from 2020. She has built an impressive resume with roles in projects like ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ and ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ along with ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ where she earned an Emmy nomination. Her background in both live-action and voice work makes her a natural fit for bringing Daphne to life in this new format. Grace has long been connected to the Scooby-Doo world and this casting feels like a perfect full-circle moment.

Behind the scenes the series comes from a talented team at Warner Bros. Television in partnership with Berlanti Productions. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as writers and showrunners while also executive producing. André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner contribute as executive producers through their Midnight Radio banner. Greg Berlanti Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman round out the executive producing team. The project builds on the long history of Scooby-Doo adaptations including the live-action films from 2002 and 2004 that grossed hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide.

This new series arrives as Netflix continues to expand its lineup of reimagined classics. The focus on the gang’s first meeting and a supernatural-tinged mystery adds a layer of intrigue for longtime viewers. With Grace leading the announced cast excitement is building around who will portray Shaggy Velma Freddy and of course Scooby himself. The eight-episode format offers room to develop the characters and their dynamics in a serialized way.
