Fans of ‘Scrubs’ can rejoice as the beloved characters J.D., Turk, and Elliot are set to return to Sacred Heart. ABC has announced that the revival will premiere on Wednesday, September 30, featuring a two-episode launch at 8:00 p.m. ET. Following a successful initial season, the hospital is back in operation, and the stakes are higher than ever.

The ‘Scrubs’ revival has already demonstrated that nostalgia can still evoke genuine laughter and emotion. The first two episodes attracted an impressive 11.36 million viewers across ABC, Hulu, Disney+, and other digital platforms within just five days. This strong performance prompted the network to quickly renew the show for another season.

For fans, the good news is that ABC is maintaining a familiar schedule. The new season will air on the same day and timeslot as the first, beginning with two episodes. This means Wednesday nights are once again dedicated to the antics at Sacred Heart.

After the double premiere, the season will follow a consistent release pattern, with one episode available each Wednesday. Viewers looking to plan ahead should note that this season is slightly longer, consisting of ten episodes instead of the previous nine, with the finale expected to be available on Hulu by Thanksgiving.

The premiere night is also complemented by a strong lead-in, as ‘Shark Tank’ will follow at 9:00 p.m. ET with its own two-episode premiere, making for an exciting evening of television on ABC.

Fans can catch every new episode live on ABC at the scheduled times. For those who prefer to watch without commercials or on their own time, episodes will be available for streaming on Hulu the day after they air on ABC. This means the double premiere will be ready to stream on October 1. Viewers who want to catch up can revisit the first season, which aired from February 25 to April 15.

The new season picks up where the last left off, with Dr. Cox facing serious health issues. The premiere episode, titled ‘My First Time in a While,’ will see J.D. enlist Turk and Elliot to assist with Dr. Cox’s care.

Zach Braff, who also directed the first episode, has indicated that viewers will see more of John C. McGinley this season. In an interview with Gold Derby, Braff teased that “We’re going to have more Johnny C” and assured fans that the storyline will not solely focus on health issues.

Romance is also on the horizon. According to an exclusive preview from TV Insider, J.D. has started dating Charlie, the character he had a crush on during the first season finale, although his job complicates their relationship. Meanwhile, the dynamic between J.D. and Dr. Cox remains sharp, even as the mentor must rely on his former pupil.

The main cast is back, with Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke reprising their roles as J.D., Turk, and Elliot. Rachel Bilson returns as Charlie, and the new season will also introduce new faces.

Tamera Mowry-Housley joins as a guest star, while original cast members John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, Neil Flynn, and Robert Maschio will also make guest appearances. Additionally, Scott Foley will portray Sean, a romantic interest for Elliot, adding an interesting twist to her character’s journey.

However, there are some notable absences. Ken Jenkins is not returning, despite being on creator Bill Lawrence’s wish list. Radio Times also reports that X Mayo and Joel Kim Booster will not be appearing this season.

As ‘Scrubs’ continues to blend humor with heartfelt moments, the new season promises to explore Dr. Cox’s struggles and the dynamics of mentorship. Will J.D. finally become the mentor Dr. Cox has always needed, or will this be the toughest challenge the team has ever faced?
