Konami has once again made it clear: Silent Hill f is a completely standalone title, separate from the main Silent Hill series. This means that even players who have never touched a Silent Hill game before can enjoy it without any confusion or need to catch up.

On the official Silent Hill X account, Konami emphasized that Silent Hill f is an entirely new story, independent from previous entries in the long-running psychological horror series. The reassurance comes in response to ongoing questions from players unsure about jumping into a series with such a deep history.

Silent Hill f takes place in rural Japan during the 1960s, a major departure from the series’ usual Western settings. The story follows a high school student named Hinako Mukami, whose everyday life is suddenly shattered as her once-familiar town begins to transform into something terrifying. She must solve mysteries and fight to survive in this eerie, twisted world.

The game is written by Ryukishi07, the acclaimed creator of Higurashi When They Cry, known for his deeply unsettling and mystery-filled narratives. In March, a second trailer for the game was revealed during the SILENT HILL Transmission broadcast, showing off creepy Japanese-style creatures and grotesque, shocking scenes that have left a strong impression on fans.

During a talk session following the broadcast, series producer Motoi Okamoto confirmed that Silent Hill f is “a complete spin-off.” He noted that the game is designed to be welcoming for newcomers, but also includes subtle details and Easter eggs that will make longtime fans of the series “smile.”

The story, crafted by Ryukishi07-sensei, is full of mysteries to explore,” said Okamoto. “Fans of his past works like Higurashi will enjoy it, and so will Silent Hill veterans.”

Even though the game stands apart from the main storyline, some fans were still hesitant due to the franchise’s long history. That prompted Konami to post a second reminder on social media: “This is a completely new standalone title. Even if you’ve never played a Silent Hill game before, you can enjoy this one.”

With its fresh setting, unique story, and legendary horror writer at the helm, Silent Hill f is shaping up to be a thrilling experience for both newcomers and fans of the franchise.
