The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has officially opened its doors in Los Angeles, and the star-studded celebration provided plenty of buzz for fans. One of the standout moments featured ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Griselda’ star Sofia Vergara posing next to a display of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Dressed in a shimmering red gown, Vergara effortlessly captured attention against the iconic Star Wars backdrop.

The memorable photo was taken during the museum’s opening celebration on September 19, just a day before it opened to the public. Vergara posed in front of a yellow airspeeder display featuring Anakin and Obi-Wan, creating a striking blend of Hollywood glamour and Star Wars nostalgia. The image quickly circulated on social media, with fans of the franchise enjoying this unique pairing.

The Lucas Museum is the culmination of a long-term project spearheaded by George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson. Situated in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park, the museum spans approximately 300,000 square feet and aims to explore the various ways stories have been told through images. Architect Ma Yansong of MAD, in collaboration with Stantec, designed the building, which features a large curved shape inspired by a cloud.

While Star Wars has a dedicated section within the museum, it is just one of many attractions. According to CNN, the franchise occupies only about 7 percent of the museum’s space. Visitors expecting an entire building devoted to George Lucas’ legendary galaxy may be surprised by the diverse range of exhibits available.

Nonetheless, the Star Wars section remains one of the main draws. The museum’s opening Cinema installation, titled ‘Star Wars in Motion’, highlights vehicles from the first six films. The collection showcases everything from Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder from ‘A New Hope’ to vehicles associated with ‘Revenge of the Sith’.

The exhibition also includes two airspeeders from ‘Attack of the Clones’, arranged to create the illusion of movement with blurred imagery in the background, offering a fresh take on a typical museum display.

Much of the collection originates from the Lucas Archives, which became a significant part of the museum’s foundation after Lucas donated props, costumes, and artwork in 2013. Visitors can also explore artwork from various film history segments, as well as comics, photography, and renowned works by artists like Frida Kahlo and Norman Rockwell.

The opening celebration was nearly as star-studded as the exhibits themselves. Harrison Ford was spotted sharing a moment with George Lucas, while Mark Hamill posed in front of a Luke Skywalker display. Hayden Christensen, who portrayed Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, was also among the guests.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oprah Winfrey and Samuel L. Jackson helped introduce an immersive drone show during the event, which illuminated the sky with Star Wars imagery and other artwork related to the museum. Notable figures like Steven Spielberg, Greta Gerwig, Guillermo del Toro, Pharrell Williams, and Lewis Hamilton also served as co-chairs for the event.

Vergara was joined at the celebration by several other prominent names, including Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, and Tyler Perry. Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Christopher Nolan, Kim Kardashian, and Alicia Keys were also reportedly in attendance, while the Black Eyed Peas performed during the evening.

The museum officially opened to the public on September 22. As reported by Explore, general timed-entry tickets are priced at $25. More than 1,300 objects are expected to be on display across the museum’s galleries, providing visitors with plenty to explore beyond Star Wars.

For fans of the franchise, the opportunity to see iconic costumes, artwork, and vehicles up close is likely to be a significant attraction. Vergara’s photo with Anakin and Obi-Wan has already sparked another fun viral moment, demonstrating that even before the museum welcomed its first visitors, the Lucas Museum was already generating excitement.
