Soldier Boy Makes Homelander Unstoppable by Giving Him V1 in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 Episode 6
The final season of ‘The Boys’ has been a whirlwind of chaos, and Prime Video has reserved some of its most shocking moments for this concluding stretch. As the series approaches its end after years of critiquing superhero culture, each episode feels like a farewell, amplifying the pressure to deliver a satisfying conclusion.
Developed by Eric Kripke from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic, the entire final season revolves around one pivotal weapon: V1, Frederick Vought’s original Compound V formula. This compound not only enhances a supe’s abilities but also grants them biological immortality. Homelander, portrayed by Antony Starr, has fixated on acquiring it, seeing it as the final piece to his god-like aspirations. The ongoing struggle to prevent him from obtaining it has been the season’s primary source of tension.
Then came episode six, which shattered all previous plans. In ‘The Boys’ Season 5 Episode 6, Soldier Boy unexpectedly handed Homelander the V1 compound, despite earlier efforts to keep it away from him. Without hesitation, Homelander injected the V1, leading to a moment that could spell disaster for The Boys.
The emotional weight of this decision ties back to a character named Bombsight and a storyline that redefined the true cost of immortality. Soldier Boy persuaded Bombsight to relinquish the V1 and forgo his powers, offering him a finite human life with the woman he loved, Golden Geisha, rather than an eternity of watching her age and die without him. This choice forced Soldier Boy to confront his own feelings about Clara Vought, known as Stormfront, and what she would have desired for Homelander.
Both Soldier Boy and Homelander share a complex connection to Clara, and this bond, however twisted, has gradually transformed their relationship from mutual hatred to a complicated acceptance. Standing before Homelander with the vial, Soldier Boy reminded him that Clara once believed he was the strongest supe alive, the ultimate embodiment of their potential, but she had not yet met Homelander when she said it. He then handed over the vial without a second thought.
Sister Sage had orchestrated much of the episode to drive a wedge between the two and ensure the V1 was destroyed before Homelander could access it, but her plans failed to anticipate the emotional shift Soldier Boy underwent. The smartest person on the planet did not see this coming, and this oversight could lead to dire consequences in the remaining episodes.
With the supe-killing virus now ineffective against an immortal Homelander, the stakes for the finale have never been higher. However, there remains a glimmer of hope buried within the same episode. Soldier Boy demonstrated that his nuclear blast can strip a V1-enhanced supe of their immortality, as he did with Bombsight, leaving open the possibility that he could eventually use that same power against Homelander when the time is right. Whether this setup will pay off or if the show will take a darker turn entirely is the looming question.
With only two episodes left and a god-level Homelander standing between The Boys and any chance of victory, the pressing question remains: was Soldier Boy’s change of heart a genuine moment of connection or the most cunning long game anyone on this show has ever played?
