Blockbusters rarely dominate headlines for two months, but ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has managed to do just that. Since its release on July 31, the film has consistently set records, overtaking competitors on the all-time box office charts. Tom Holland’s latest portrayal of Peter Parker has become one of the most significant theatrical successes in recent years.

The film’s performance has been impressive from the outset. It debuted with a record-breaking $360 million domestically and $932 million worldwide, crossing the $1 billion mark globally within just six days. After only three weekends, it surpassed $2 billion, making it Sony’s highest-grossing release to date.

Currently, the global box office total is nearing another remarkable milestone. According to the latest data shared by box office analyst Luiz Fernando on X, ‘Brand New Day’ has reached approximately $2.48 billion worldwide and is on track to surpass $2.5 billion within the next two weeks. Achieving this would position it as only the third film in history to reach that threshold.

The film’s eighth weekend overseas brought in $10.8 million, reflecting a modest 44% drop. Its international total now stands at $1.53 billion across 66 markets. When combined with a domestic total of $944.5 million, the worldwide gross reaches the $2.48 billion mark.

Fernando has projected a global total of between $2.5 billion and $2.6 billion. While this is an analyst’s estimate rather than an official figure, the film’s consistent performance suggests it is a plausible outcome. He noted that the film had a production budget of $225 million, excluding marketing costs.

The list of films that have crossed the $2.5 billion mark is extremely limited. ‘Avatar’ currently leads the all-time chart with approximately $2.92 billion, followed by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at around $2.8 billion. Both films achieved this milestone during their original runs, with ‘Endgame’ reaching it in 20 days and ‘Avatar’ in 72 days.

Films below this duo represent a significant drop in earnings. ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ finished around $2.3 billion, while ‘Titanic’ sits at approximately $2.26 billion. ‘Brand New Day’ has already surpassed both of these films, as well as ‘Ne Zha 2,’ to secure third place.

The international performance has been particularly strong, with China emerging as the top overseas market, contributing $227.4 million as of early September. Following China are the UK, Mexico, France, and Brazil. The film has also become Sony’s highest-grossing release ever in 56 international territories, according to Deadline.

Local records have also been shattered. It has become India’s biggest Hollywood release ever and has taken the top spot as the biggest film of all time in Brazil and Spain after just two weekends. These achievements have contributed to a summer season that reached $4.765 billion globally, marking the highest on record.

North America has played a crucial role as well. On September 16, ‘Brand New Day’ surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at $936.773 million, now holding the title of the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office. It remains the biggest film of 2026 worldwide, far ahead of ‘The Odyssey,’ which is in second place.

The domestic total is nearing $950 million, but Variety has noted that reaching $1 billion in North America seems unlikely without a re-release. This makes the global race even more intriguing. Crossing $2.5 billion would be a fitting new milestone for a film that has already broken numerous records.

Despite some challenges ahead, such as decreasing overseas weekend earnings and shrinking daily grosses, only a modest amount is needed to surpass $2.5 billion, making this milestone appear within reach.

Beyond this point, the film’s ranking on the chart is unlikely to change significantly. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is set for a re-release this month, which Deadline anticipates will extend its lead over ‘Brand New Day.’ Nevertheless, securing third place all time is an extraordinary achievement for any film.
