‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Dominates Overseas Box Office with Record Numbers
Marvel films have faced challenges in the international box office lately, particularly with China becoming a market that Hollywood can no longer take for granted. This makes the success of Tom Holland’s latest solo film even more remarkable.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ launched in several Asian markets ahead of its North American debut, providing industry analysts with an early glimpse into the demand for Peter Parker’s adventures. The initial figures indicate that this demand is greater than many anticipated.
In China, the film raked in over 35 million dollars on its opening day, marking the highest single-day gross for a superhero film in the country since ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ in 2019. Local estimates now suggest that its total theatrical run in China could reach between 255 million and 265 million dollars, positioning it as one of Hollywood’s strongest performances there in years.
This figure is particularly significant considering that China never screened ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ due to regulatory objections regarding the film’s use of the Statue of Liberty. After seven years of pent-up demand for Holland’s portrayal of the character, the film’s presales alone have already hit 18.6 million dollars ahead of its Wednesday release.
Indonesia is reporting similar success, with ‘Brand New Day’ achieving nearly 600,000 admissions on its opening day, according to local tracking data. This figure sets a new record for the biggest single-day opening of any film released in Indonesia in 2026, surpassing the previous record held by ‘No Way Home,’ which had attracted around 570,000 admissions on its opening day.
South Korea and other regional markets have also reported strong early figures, with South Korea alone generating close to five million dollars on its opening day. With robust performances in the UK, France, and Latin America, the film’s early global total had already surpassed the 100 million dollar mark before its North American release.
Analysts are now estimating a global opening weekend between 465 million and 800 million dollars once domestic figures are included, which would place ‘Brand New Day’ among the largest launches in the character’s history and one of the most successful openings of the year across all of Hollywood. Sony anticipates the film will earn an additional 270 million dollars internationally, alongside a projected 195 million dollar domestic opening weekend.

For reference, ‘No Way Home’ set the franchise benchmark, opening to 600.5 million dollars globally in 2021 and ultimately grossing 1.92 billion dollars worldwide. Whether ‘Brand New Day’ can match those figures over its entire run remains to be seen, but its strong opening in Asia suggests that Marvel may have discovered a franchise entry capable of overcoming superhero fatigue.
With production costs estimated at around 225 million dollars, the film’s early Asian numbers are already paving a solid path toward profitability before North American audiences even weigh in. If these early trends continue throughout its global rollout, ‘Brand New Day’ could emerge as one of the defining box office narratives of the year.
