Marvel was in dire need of a success after a challenging 2025. With ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ falling short at the box office, fans began to question if the MCU had lost its touch. However, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has decisively answered that query.

Tom Holland’s fourth solo adventure as Peter Parker has been shattering records since its release on July 31. It opened with a staggering $360M domestically, surpassing the $357.1M debut of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The film also achieved a remarkable $932M global launch, making it the second-largest opening ever, trailing only behind ‘Endgame’s’ $1.2B.

The momentum continued unabated. The film reached $2B globally within just three weekends, making it the second-fastest to achieve this milestone after ‘Endgame’, which accomplished it in 11 days. It subsequently surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to become the highest-grossing domestic release in history.

Now, it has crossed yet another significant threshold. According to box office analyst Luiz Fernando, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has become the third film ever to exceed $2.5B globally. In its 10th weekend, it earned approximately $4M overseas, reflecting a modest 35.5% drop, which brought the international total to $1.55B across 66 markets. Combined with $954.5M from the US, the global total now stands at $2.5B, with projections suggesting a final tally of $2.52B.

Sony’s own figures corroborate this. The studio reported a cumulative global total of $2.506B, consisting of $955M domestic and $1.551B international. This places the film behind only ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at $2.925B and ‘Avatar’ at $2.924B.

The list of achievements is extensive. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is now the highest-grossing Spider-Man film and the highest-grossing Sony release ever. It also holds the title of the highest-grossing film of 2026, the top film in the United States and Canada, and the third-highest-grossing film worldwide.

Weekly results continued to pile up. The film dominated the box office for its first four weekends, a feat not seen since ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’. It was also the quickest film to reach $700M (in just 13 days), $800M (in 19 days), and $900M (in 36 days) domestically.

The international performance has been equally impressive. China led the overseas markets, with the opening weekend alone generating $572M from 66 territories.

The positive reception has helped the film maintain its momentum. It boasts a 90% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B CinemaScore from audiences. Critics have lauded Holland’s performance, the action sequences, and a more mature, character-driven narrative compared to earlier MCU Spider-Man films.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton, known for ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, has received praise for his direction. Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers returned after scripting the previous films in the series. The cast features Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, and Jon Bernthal.

The film’s production cost was $225M, and its worldwide gross has now surpassed 11 times that budget. However, this figure does not account for marketing expenses, meaning the profit margins are not as large as those multiples might suggest. Nevertheless, it stands as one of the most profitable releases of the year.

The film’s next target is a final total close to $2.52B. Surpassing ‘Avatar’ and ‘Endgame’, which are just shy of $2.93B, appears highly unlikely. Earlier analyses indicated that exceeding the nearly $3B mark of ‘Avatar’ was improbable.

Still, achieving third place all-time is an impressive feat for a character that seemed to have lost his shine at the box office.
