‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set to Break Long-Standing Box Office Record
Box office records rarely fall this quickly, but Tom Holland’s latest portrayal of the wall-crawler has turned its entire theatrical run into a series of milestones rather than mere finish lines. What began as an already massive opening weekend has evolved into one of the most remarkable record-breaking runs the industry has witnessed in years.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ debuted on July 31, smashing ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ all-time domestic opening record with a staggering $360 million. The film has maintained its momentum, achieving the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history and becoming the second-fastest film ever to reach $1 billion globally, only behind ‘Endgame’ itself.
This relentless pace has now positioned the film to challenge one of cinema’s most enduring records. ‘Brand New Day’ recently surpassed $896.4 million domestically after an impressive $2.7 million on its fifth Tuesday discount day, setting it on course to cross the $900 million mark on Thursday. If successful, it would become just the second film in history to achieve this milestone, following 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’
The speed at which ‘Brand New Day’ has ascended the charts makes this record chase particularly noteworthy. ‘The Force Awakens’ took 50 days to reach $900 million domestically, a benchmark that remained unchallenged for over a decade. Current tracking indicates that ‘Brand New Day’ could surpass that threshold in under 40 days, cutting more than 10 days off a record that no other film has come close to challenging.
This impressive pace has persisted even during typically slower midweek periods, where most blockbusters see significant earnings declines. The film’s fifth Tuesday discount day gross represented only a 45.9% drop from the previous Tuesday, a notably softer decline compared to ‘Endgame’s’ 35.6% drop at the same point in its run, although ‘Endgame’ was tracking from a smaller weekly base overall.
‘Brand New Day’ has already surpassed ‘Endgame’s’ lifetime domestic total of $858.3 million, claiming the number two spot on the all-time North American chart. Now, only ‘The Force Awakens’ and its $936.6 million total stand between the Spider-Man sequel and the top position.

Industry projections currently suggest that ‘Brand New Day’ could ultimately land between $950 million and $960 million domestically. This range would officially dethrone ‘The Force Awakens’ as the highest-grossing film of all time in the United States, a record that has stood for more than a decade. If it reaches $900 million by Thursday, ‘Brand New Day’ would become only the second film ever to cross that threshold domestically, doing so in a fraction of the time it took the previous record holder.
With Labor Day weekend traffic still ahead, which could provide additional momentum, the film’s trajectory indicates that this record chase is far from over. Between its record-setting opening, its historic pace to $800 million, and now its push toward $900 million, ‘Brand New Day’ has spent nearly every week of its release rewriting parts of the domestic box office record book.
