‘Star Wars’ Fans Spot Possible Luke Skywalker Reference in ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’
A keen ‘Star Wars’ fan believes they have identified a subtle reference to Luke Skywalker in ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’. This theory gained traction online after viewers noticed a fleeting scene during the movie’s opening moments.
The potential cameo occurs during the film’s opening credits at Adelphi Base. As the iconic Mandalorian theme plays, an R2 unit is briefly shown being lowered into an X-wing. One fan highlighted the moment online, asking, “Was that R2-D2 on Luke’s X-Wing that I saw on The Mandalorian and Grogu?”
Since the scene is quite quick, it’s challenging to determine if the droid is indeed R2-D2 or simply another astromech that resembles him. Some fans speculate that it might be an Easter egg rather than a direct appearance of Luke Skywalker.
Nonetheless, this theory has garnered attention, especially since Luke has a prior connection to Grogu from earlier ‘Star Wars’ series. In ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2, Luke came to rescue Grogu after the young Jedi reached out through the Force on Tython, later taking Grogu away to begin his Jedi training.
That storyline continued in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’, where Grogu chose to leave his training and return to Din Djarin. Since then, Luke Skywalker has not made another appearance in the narrative.

Fans now speculate that it would be logical for Luke to maintain connections with the New Republic during this period in the ‘Star Wars’ timeline. Some even suggest he might have visited Adelphi Base while working on the reconstruction of the Jedi Order.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Lucasfilm regarding whether the X-wing and droid truly belong to Luke Skywalker. However, this brief moment has already become one of the most discussed Easter eggs among ‘Star Wars’ fans.
