The Star Wars universe is set to revisit one of its most distinctive animated narratives with ‘Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi’. The first teaser for this upcoming series has been unveiled, offering fans a fresh glimpse into the next chapter of this beloved anime-inspired Star Wars project.

‘The Ninth Jedi’ marks the inaugural limited series under the new ‘Star Wars: Visions Presents’ banner. This show will continue the storyline from the original short film “The Ninth Jedi,” featured in the first volume of ‘Star Wars: Visions’, as well as “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” from Volume 3.

As revealed by Lucasfilm, this upcoming series is being penned by Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Production I.G, the Japanese animation studio behind the original Ninth Jedi story. The project aims to broaden the universe introduced in the short films, delving deeper into its characters, conflicts, and ties to the Jedi legacy.

‘Star Wars: Visions’ initially launched to allow creators worldwide to tell new tales within the Star Wars universe without the constraints of the franchise’s typical guidelines. Each short film showcased a unique anime-inspired style from various studios, departing from the conventional visual aesthetics of Star Wars animation.

Lucasfilm described ‘Star Wars: Visions’ as a project crafted “through the lens of the world’s best anime creators,” enabling filmmakers to infuse their own concepts and styles while maintaining the emotional themes that define Star Wars.

The original “The Ninth Jedi” quickly became a standout short from the first volume. It depicted a future where the Jedi Order was nearly extinct, following a young woman named Kara as she connects with a mysterious group of lightsaber artisans and Force users. This short was notable for its innovative perspective on the Jedi and its emphasis on rekindling hope.

Given the popularity of ‘The Ninth Jedi’, Lucasfilm opted to extend the narrative into a longer format. The new limited series will provide creators with ample time to flesh out the characters and explore the world in ways that a short film could not.

The premiere episode of ‘Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi’ will be previewed during a First Look panel at the 2026 Anime Expo convention on July 2, 2026. The full series is anticipated to launch in summer 2026.

Since its debut, the ‘Star Wars: Visions’ project has continued to evolve, with subsequent volumes showcasing animation from studios across the globe. Each installment has presented a different interpretation of the galaxy far, far away, granting creators the liberty to experiment with new narratives, designs, and characters.

While many Star Wars projects center around familiar characters and timelines, ‘Visions’ has provided the franchise with an opportunity to explore entirely new concepts. The ‘Ninth Jedi’ series will continue this tradition by expanding a narrative that fans have already embraced, while introducing a new anime-inspired chapter to the Star Wars saga.
