Sydney Sweeney Says Nude Scenes Don’t Bother Her on ‘Euphoria’ Set
Sydney Sweeney has always been open about the vulnerable aspects of her role in ‘Euphoria’, and a recent quote from the actress is gaining attention as the HBO drama’s third and final season pushes Cassie Howard into its most explicit territory yet.
In an interview with W Magazine, Sweeney shared that filming nude scenes doesn’t make her nervous and that the role has fundamentally changed her self-perception. “I don’t get nervous,” she stated. “I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I’m telling my character’s story, so I owe it to them to tell it well and to do what needs to be done.”
This perspective has gained new significance with the arrival of Season 3. In the latest episodes, Cassie’s storyline sees her turning to OnlyFans to finance the extravagant wedding she believes she deserves with Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi. The scenes feature Sweeney in a baseball-themed shoot, licking ice cream as it drips down her chest, and a controversial baby pose that sparked backlash even before the season premiered.
Viewer reactions have been sharply divided, with some celebrating Cassie’s open spirit while others express concern that the show has gone too far. This discourse is nothing new for Sweeney, who has navigated the complex conversation surrounding women and nudity in Hollywood for years.
She previously told Cosmopolitan that she felt audiences often don’t take her seriously due to her topless scenes, while male actors receive praise for similar work, leaving women dismissed or degraded.
Sweeney has also consistently praised ‘Euphoria’ creator Sam Levinson for being mindful of her comfort level, stating she has never felt uncomfortable on set and that intimacy coordinators have helped create a safe filming environment. She noted in a previous interview with The Independent that there were instances where she pushed back against unnecessary nudity, and Levinson always respected her decisions.
Outside of ‘Euphoria’, Sweeney has been candid about her willingness to continue filming nude scenes, but she hopes for a more open dialogue about the expectations placed on actors who take on such roles.
She has made a point to separate her identity from Cassie’s, expressing that when she sees screenshots of the character’s nude scenes online, it genuinely feels like viewing someone else’s body rather than her own.
Sweeney had previously asked Levinson to give Cassie more depth, and Season 3 seems to have answered that call, delivering some of the most talked-about scenes in the show’s history. Whether audiences feel uncomfortable or captivated, few can deny that Sweeney is fully committed to telling this character’s story to its most unflinching conclusion.
