Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Film Reportedly Set to Feature a Female Lead
Taika Waititi is mostly known for his unique sense of humor and creativity. He directed the successful movie ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ in 2017, which helped transform the character of Thor in the MCU. Waititi also won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his film ‘Jojo Rabbit’ and is involved in many creative projects, including acting and producing in several major franchises.
Following his success with the MCU and his work on ‘The Mandalorian,’ where he directed an episode and voiced the droid IG-11, he was supposed to direct an untitled project for LucasFilm. Not much is known about the movie, and its state is mysterious, to say the least.
The most recent update on the movie came from Kathleen Kennedy herself. Back in February, she stated that she was waiting for Waititi to deliver the script for the movie and that he was working with a different writer.
Now, notable industry insider Daniel Richtman claims via his Patreon that Waititi’s Star Wars Film will feature a female lead. So we are likely getting a new female face of the franchise akin Rey.
The details on this are scarce, so take it with a grain of salt. Recently, the movie was also claimed to be in indefinite hold, but those rumors were debunked relatively quickly.
