Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Lawmen Bass Reeves’ With 93% Audience Score Coming to Netflix
Streaming platforms are continuously reshuffling their content, making it increasingly common for popular shows to transition from one service to another. For viewers, this often presents a second opportunity to catch something they may have overlooked initially. It also highlights the competitive nature of the streaming landscape, as companies strive to attract broader audiences.
Simultaneously, collaborations between major studios are beginning to influence what viewers will watch next. Big companies are moving away from keeping everything exclusive to their platforms, opting instead to share significant titles across services to enhance visibility and keep subscribers engaged.
A recent example of this trend involves Netflix and Paramount Global. Official announcements reveal that the Western drama ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ will be available on Netflix starting June 1 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and several international regions. The series first debuted on Paramount+ in late 2023.
Created by Chad Feehan and executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, known for his work in the ‘Yellowstone’ universe, the show narrates the true story of Bass Reeves, a former enslaved man who became one of the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshals west of the Mississippi River. Throughout his career, he reportedly apprehended over 3,000 outlaws, earning his place as a legendary figure of the American frontier.
David Oyelowo stars in the lead role, and his performance has been a highlight of the series. He is joined by a talented cast that includes Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Barry Pepper, Dennis Quaid, Donald Sutherland, Shea Whigham, and Garrett Hedlund. The series also features several familiar faces in recurring roles, enriching the narrative further.
This transition is part of a larger strategy, as Netflix has confirmed during earnings calls that it has secured a deal to add more titles from Paramount to its library. This includes shows like ‘Mayor of Kingstown,’ ‘SEAL Team,’ and ‘Watson.’
Such collaborations have already demonstrated success. Other Paramount titles have experienced a surge in popularity after landing on Netflix. Shows like ‘Halo’ and ‘School Spirits’ attracted a significantly larger audience once they became available to Netflix subscribers. Even films like ‘Love in Taipei’ found new viewers after making the switch.
With its upcoming wider release, ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ is anticipated to perform well on Netflix. The combination of a compelling true story, a strong cast, and Taylor Sheridan’s involvement positions it favorably to rank high on the platform’s charts when it becomes accessible to a global audience.
