‘The Odyssey’ has been on an international press tour for several weeks, with notable stops in London and Paris that provided fans with numerous red carpet moments to admire ahead of the film’s release. Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic has already created excitement for its grand scale and IMAX Film Camera production, but the film’s ensemble cast has been quietly conducting its own fashion campaign on the carpet.

This campaign reached its pinnacle this week at the film’s New York premiere, held at AMC Lincoln Square. Embracing the Grecian theme of the movie, the event evolved from a typical press stop into a full-fledged fashion spectacle, with nearly every star connecting their look to their character.

Zendaya, portraying the goddess Athena, showcased her status as the reigning queen of method dressing with a stunning design from French fashion house Matières Fécale.

Her strapless white gown featured an illusion feather fabric that formed literal wings across the back, complemented by a plunging neckline and a thigh-high slit. The brand later revealed on social media that Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, had requested the archival piece nearly two years in advance.

Anne Hathaway, who plays Odysseus’ wife Penelope, brought her own regal flair to the carpet in a custom Prada gown featuring a metallic silver chainmail-style bodice with an empire waistline.

The actress, who is expecting her third child, paired the flowing ivory pleated skirt with Bulgari jewelry, for whom she serves as a global ambassador, giving her maternity look a distinctly queenly touch that aligned with her character’s narrative.

Lupita Nyong’o, who takes on the dual role of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, dazzled in a gold lace gown from Nicholas Oakwell Couture, featuring a corseted bodice and a thigh-high slit skirt. Her stylist, Micaela Erlanger, completed the look with a Sabyasachi necklace adorned with two uncut diamond pendants and a custom Olympia Le-Tan clutch shaped like a book, embroidered with imagery directly related to Homer’s text.

Charlize Theron, who plays the nymph Calypso, opted for a more contemporary look with a custom Dior minidress from the label’s spring couture collection, featuring sinuous white lines, a plunging neckline, and a bow accent at the waist.

Samantha Morton, portraying the sorceress Circe, embraced her character’s darker mythology with a deep red and aubergine Maison Margiela dress from the label’s fall collection, paired with a slicked-back hairstyle and smoky red eye makeup.

The male attendees kept their looks relatively understated yet still thematic, with Tom Holland donning a tailored chocolate brown suit for his role as Telemachus, while Elliot Page opted for a sleek black suit alongside his girlfriend.

Matt Damon’s wife, Luciana Barroso, also embraced the Grecian theme of the evening, completing a red carpet that fully committed to transforming ancient mythology into modern high fashion.

The New York premiere marked the conclusion of the film’s international press tour, following earlier events in London and Paris where much of the same cast showcased similarly mythology-inspired looks. With winged bodices, gilded gowns, and Grecian draping, the cast demonstrated that their dedication to the film’s ancient world extended beyond the screen and onto the carpet itself.

‘The Odyssey’ opens in theaters on July 17, with preview screenings the night before, and also stars Robert Pattinson.
