Theo Rossi is stirring up excitement regarding his future in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe with recent comments suggesting he might evolve into one of Batman’s iconic villains.

Currently, Rossi portrays Dr. Julian Rush in The Penguin, which is set in the same gritty world as The Batman. His character, who works at Arkham Asylum, shares a complicated relationship with Sofia Falcone, played by Cristin Milioti. Although Julian Rush is an original character, fans have quickly linked him to established Batman mythology.

This speculation is largely fueled by visual hints within the series. Objects in his office, such as a mask and a glove adorned with sharp, needle-like features, have led viewers to theorize that he could eventually transform into Scarecrow, also known as Dr. Jonathan Crane.

During a recent interview at SXSW, while promoting another project, Rossi addressed these fan theories. He neither confirmed nor denied the possibility but acknowledged that many creative decisions are unfolding behind the scenes, highlighting that the show contains numerous hidden details and references.

He even commented on the speculation, stating, “Scarecrow, yeah.” When asked if he had ever been officially considered for the role, he remained ambiguous, saying, “Who knows what will happen one day…”

The actor emphasized that many subtle details in The Penguin were deliberate and that fans may not have caught everything yet. He expressed pride in the show and the team behind it.

As of now, Rossi has not been confirmed for The Batman Part 2, which is in development under director Matt Reeves. This sequel will continue the narrative of Robert Pattinson’s Batman and further explore the universe established in The Batman and The Penguin. However, his absence from the cast list does not eliminate the possibility of a future role.

The franchise’s direction allows for long-term character development. Arkham Asylum plays a significant role in the storyline, and both the series and films have delved into characters associated with it. This positions Julian Rush as a strong candidate for further narrative evolution.

There are also ongoing talks about future spin-offs and additional projects within the same universe, which could create opportunities for character arcs that are still unfolding.

The Scarecrow theory is one of the more intriguing concepts in this iteration of the Batman universe. The clues are subtle yet clearly intentional, and Rossi’s remarks leave the possibility open without confirming anything. It seems like a gradual build that could yield significant results later if the writers choose to pursue that path. What do you think? Should Theo Rossi become Scarecrow in this universe, or should his character remain original? Share your thoughts in the comments.
