‘The Testaments’ Welcomes Deborah Ann Woll and Luke Kirby to Season 2 Cast
Hulu’s ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ universe has spent the past year demonstrating it still has a wealth of stories to explore, and its spinoff series is rapidly assembling one of the most impressive casts in prestige television. With Season 2 now well into production, the show continues to attract familiar faces from across the streaming landscape, injecting new energy into its already impressive ensemble.
The latest newcomers are Deborah Ann Woll and Luke Kirby, who are set to join ‘The Testaments‘ for its upcoming second season. According to Deadline, Woll will appear as a recurring guest star, while Kirby takes on a guest role, adding two significant new characters to Gilead’s increasingly perilous world.
Woll, who was recently seen reprising her role as Karen Page in Marvel Television’s ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ will portray Sylvia, a seamstress whose work keeps her close to the wives and daughters of Gilead’s Commanders. Kirby, recognized for his role in ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,’ will play Commander Fletcher, a literal-minded recluse residing on a farm in one of Gilead’s Colonies, whose quirky personality has made it notoriously challenging for him to find a wife.
These additions follow the news that Charlie Carrick, who portrays Gilead’s Commander Judd, has been promoted to a series regular for Season 2, while Haley Wong is joining the cast as series regular Prudence, described as a dutiful and pregnant wife. Ann Dowd continues to anchor the series in her role as Aunt Lydia, reprising the character she originated on ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’
‘The Testaments’ is based on Margaret Atwood’s Booker Prize-winning 2019 novel of the same name, following young teens Agnes, played by Chase Infiniti, and Daisy, played by Lucy Halliday, as they navigate the elite preparatory school for future wives run by Aunt Lydia. The series is created by showrunner Bruce Miller, who also developed ‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ and executive produces alongside Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, and a long list of additional producers.

Season 1 premiered in April and quickly established itself as a worthy successor to its predecessor, with the show’s cast also including Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, and Kira Guloien. The series is set roughly four years after the events of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ finale, following a new generation of young women in Gilead as they confront the realities of indoctrination and forced marriage.
Production on Season 2 officially began in August, following Hulu’s decision to renew the series for a second season just one week ahead of the Season 1 finale, a swift turnaround that reflects strong confidence in the show’s performance. According to Disney, audiences streamed over 45 million hours of the series globally across Hulu and Disney+ during its debut run, and the show received largely favorable reviews from critics.

With Season 1 having introduced Agnes and Daisy’s growing bond as the emotional core of the series, fans have ample reason to expect that relationship to remain central as the story delves deeper into Atwood’s source material. Given the book’s structure, which alternates between the perspectives of three central women, there’s also strong reason to believe the series will continue to explore Aunt Lydia’s complex arc alongside the younger characters navigating Gilead’s harsh social order.
With Woll and Kirby now joining an already rich ensemble, ‘The Testaments’ seems to be further embracing the sprawling, morally intricate world Atwood crafted across both novels. As production progresses, fans will likely have to wait until sometime in 2027 for the new season to arrive.
