Transformers & G.I. Joe Crossover Update Director Confirms Project Is Alive
A crossover movie featuring ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ may finally be on the horizon. After years of speculation and anticipation, recent updates from Paramount and the teams behind these franchises indicate that the project is still very much alive and progressing.
According to IGN, Paramount announced during CinemaCon 2026 that both a new ‘Transformers’ film and a new ‘G.I. Joe’ movie are currently in the works. While specific details about either project remain under wraps, this announcement has reignited excitement regarding the long-awaited crossover between the two Hasbro franchises.
The crossover was initially hinted at the conclusion of ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ in 2023. In the final moments, Anthony Ramos’ character Noah is approached about joining ‘G.I. Joe’ after aiding in the battle against Unicron and the Terrorcons. Fans anticipated that this setup would quickly lead to a shared universe film, but updates have been sparse since then.
Recently, ‘Rise of the Beasts’ director Steven Caple Jr. provided a new update to ScreenRant. Although he confirmed he will not be directing the next ‘Transformers’ movie, he mentioned that the crossover concept is still being developed behind the scenes.
He told the outlet, “I do. I still do have big plans for what that could be, but we’ll have to see. We’ll have to see what comes about it. I am not part of the next ‘Transformers’ film, but it’s still in development and there’s still time, so you just never know.”
The ‘Transformers’ franchise has been one of Paramount’s most significant brands since Michael Bay debuted the live-action series in 2007. Several films have achieved remarkable box office success, including ‘Dark of the Moon’ and ‘Age of Extinction’, both surpassing $1 billion globally. More recent entries like ‘Bumblebee’ and ‘Transformers One’ received better reviews from critics, although ‘Transformers One’ faced financial challenges at the box office.
In contrast, the ‘G.I. Joe’ franchise has experienced a more inconsistent trajectory. ‘The Rise of Cobra’ and ‘Retaliation’ performed reasonably well, but ‘Snake Eyes’ was a significant disappointment following its 2021 release. As a result, Paramount may be seeking a new direction before merging these two universes.
Earlier reports from Deadline indicated that various ‘G.I. Joe’ projects were in development, including scripts from writers Danny McBride and Max Landis. However, Variety later reported that Paramount and Hasbro decided to halt progress on Landis’ version.
Currently, it appears that the upcoming ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ films will likely concentrate on revitalizing their respective franchises first. Nevertheless, with both new films officially in development and Caple confirming that the crossover remains active, the possibility of seeing Autobots and ‘G.I. Joe’ unite now seems stronger than it has in years.
