‘We Were Liars’ Season 2 Cast Revealed as Sinclairs Get 1999 Origin Story
Prime Video’s breakout mystery drama made a significant impact when it premiered in the summer of 2025. The series, adapted from E. Lockhart’s bestselling novel, quickly soared to the top of the charts on Prime Video, both in the United States and globally, establishing itself as one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
With its gripping narrative of a wealthy teenager grappling with amnesia and hidden family secrets on a private island, the show drew immediate comparisons to acclaimed titles like ‘Big Little Lies’, indicating a strong audience demand for more.
The series was officially renewed for a second season in September 2025, and the creative team promptly began laying the groundwork for what lies ahead. Co-showrunners Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie return to lead the project, with E. Lockhart also back as an executive producer. This season will draw inspiration from Lockhart’s 2022 prequel novel ‘Family of Liars’, stirring excitement among fans about potential flashback timelines and the Sinclair family’s hidden history since the renewal announcement.
Now, Prime Video has unveiled the cast members who will bring this history to life. Josh Dallas, Costa D’Angelo, Parker Lapaine, Peyton List, Elysia Roorbach, and Madison Wolfe have all been confirmed as series regulars for the second season. The announcement, shared via the @PrimeVideo account on X, teased the new cast with the phrase “They were always a family of liars. Carrie. Penny. Bess. Meet the new cast of We Were Liars Season 2,” accompanied by a dramatic clip that has already sparked fan reactions across social media.
The season will flash back to the summer of 1999, with the new cast portraying younger versions of the Sinclair family’s central adults. Josh Dallas, known for ‘Manifest’ and ‘Once Upon a Time’, will play a young Harris Sinclair, the family patriarch previously portrayed by David Morse. Peyton List, recognized for her role in ‘Mad Men’, will take on the character of a young Tipper. Elysia Roorbach will portray Penny, originally played by Caitlin FitzGerald, while Parker Lapaine will step into the role of a younger Carrie, previously played by Mamie Gummer. Madison Wolfe will take on the teenage version of Bess, originally portrayed by Candice King.
Lockhart herself has hinted that while the prequel storyline will delve into the Sinclair sisters’ teenage years, fans can also expect to see Cadence, Johnny, and the adult sisters return in the new season. This means Emily Alyn Lind will reprise her role as the series’ narrator, providing a dual-timeline structure that may finally address some lingering questions from Season 1. The addition of Costa D’Angelo rounds out the cast as Pfeff, a New England college student described by Prime Video as soulful, observant, and wounded.
For a series built around the premise that every seemingly perfect family harbors secrets, returning to 1999 to witness the Sinclair parents navigate their own mysteries feels like a natural and thrilling expansion of the narrative. Co-creators Plec and MacKenzie have previously stated that there are still many secrets buried on Beechwood Island, and they are eager to continue uncovering them. With a strong new ensemble and a prequel storyline that promises surprises even for book readers, Season 2 is set to deliver high expectations and significant potential.
