The “Worldwide Gundam General Election 2025” announced its intermediate results on November 26, revealing the top 20 Gundam-type mobile suits based on global votes. The poll, launched to celebrate the GUNDAM Official Website, accepts one vote per person daily until December 25 at 23:59 Japan time. It covers Gundam units from Universal Century and Alternative series in animated works, available in 10 languages. The top-voted machine will receive a new illustration, with final rankings compiled by language and worldwide.

The 20 machines include G-Self from ‘G no Reconguista in G,’ Z Gundam from ‘Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam,’ and Turn A Gundam from ‘Turn A Gundam.’ Strike Freedom Gundam and Destiny Gundam from ‘Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny’ both appear, alongside Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex from ‘Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.’ The original Gundam from ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’ ranks among classics like Nu Gundam from ‘Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack.’ Recent entries feature Gundam Calibarn and Gundam Aerial from ‘Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.’

Thirteen voice actors contributed endorsement comments, highlighting favorites from their series. Tetsuya Furuya, Amuro Ray’s voice in the original, praised the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam for its enduring design. Megumi Hayashibara, Rei Ayanami in ‘Evangelion’ but a Gundam veteran, detailed her affinity for Zeta Gundam. Daisuke Sakaguchi, who voiced in ‘Gundam Build Fighters,’ backed God Gundam from ‘Mobile Fighter G Gundam.’ Other participants include Ryusei Nakao, Takehito Koyasu, Hikaru Midorikawa, Kenta Miyake, Kenichi Suzumura, Takuya Eguchi, Junichi Suwabe, Romi Park, and Ami Koshimizu.

North American influence shows in inclusions like Turn A Gundam and G-Self, less dominant in Japan-only polls. Freedom Gundam variants split votes, with Strike Freedom, Mightiest Strike Freedom from ‘Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom,’ and base Freedom all listed. Production I.G. oversees the event, with results reflecting over 45 years of the franchise since 1979. Voting data aggregates from 200 countries, emphasizing Gundam’s global reach beyond 1 billion merchandise sales.

The poll excludes support units like Strike Rouge, despite its listing, focusing strictly on Gundam-named mechs. Voice actor comments, viewable on the official site, average 150 words each, blending nostalgia and technical praise. Gundam SEED series dominates with six entries, underscoring its 20th anniversary impact. Bandai Namco reported 15 million daily website visits during the poll period.

Final results on January 15, 2026, will influence future merchandise and exhibits. The event coincides with ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’ promotion, introducing Red Gundam. Historical polls, like 2018’s Japan-focused vote, crowned Unicorn Gundam; this global edition shifts toward diverse eras. Sunrise, the primary studio, produced 50 Gundam anime since inception.

Fan reactions on X exceed 5,000 posts since announcement, debating splits like Destiny variants. The top 20 spans 1980’s originals to 2022’s Aerial, averaging 30-year release gaps. No elimination rounds occur; tallies update weekly until close. This poll marks the franchise’s first multilingual fan vote, targeting 100 million impressions across platforms.
