Scarlett Johansson has entered final negotiations to join the cast of ‘The Batman Part II’. The sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2021 film will feature Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Johansson’s potential involvement marks a significant addition to the DC Studios project under Warner Bros.

Matt Reeves directs and co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin. Production on ‘The Batman Part II’ is scheduled to begin next year. Johansson plans to film her role in ‘The Exorcist’ prior to starting on the Batman sequel. She recently signed on for the horror project, which continues her streak of high-profile genre commitments.

Johansson’s recent credits include her portrayal of Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff across multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe films. She starred in ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’, released in July 2025, as a lead character navigating corporate espionage. Johansson also made her directorial debut with ‘Eleanor the Great’, featuring June Squibb in the title role as an elderly woman embarking on a cross-country journey.

The original ‘The Batman’ premiered in March 2022 and grossed $770.3 million worldwide. The film introduced a grounded take on Gotham City, focusing on Bruce Wayne’s second year as the vigilante. It spawned a Max spinoff series centered on Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot, known as The Penguin, which debuted earlier this year.

Warner Bros. announced ‘The Batman Part II’ in April 2022 during CinemaCon. The project faced delays, shifting from an initial October 2025 release to October 2, 2026, and now to October 1, 2027. These postponements align with broader DC Studios restructuring under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The first film’s ensemble included ZoĆ« Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffery Wright as James Gordon, Paul Dano as Edward Nygma/The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Barry Keoghan in an uncredited role as an Arkham Asylum inmate hinting at The Joker. Reeves has emphasized expanding the universe through interconnected stories rather than a full shared universe. Johansson’s role remains undisclosed, with speculation centering on a reimagined villain or ally.

Nexus Point News first reported Johansson’s talks with Warner Bros. The negotiations, if completed, position her alongside Pattinson in a narrative exploring deeper corruption in Gotham. Reeves has described the sequel as delving into Batman’s evolution against institutional decay. Johansson’s addition brings her experience from action-heavy franchises to the noir-infused DC entry.

The Batman universe continues to grow, with ‘The Penguin’ series earning critical acclaim for Farrell’s performance. That eight-episode run concluded its first season in November 2025, setting up potential crossovers. Johansson’s schedule allows her to balance ‘The Exorcist’ with Batman duties, showcasing her versatility in blockbuster cinema.
