James Gunn has officially unveiled the first footage of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, offering a distinct glimpse of the character’s tone in the upcoming DC Universe chapter. The DC Studios co-CEO released the brief clip to social media, confirming that the full teaser trailer for the film will debut later this week. This preview marks the first significant look at Alcock’s performance since her casting was announced, following her brief cameo in the studio’s 2025 Superman reboot.

The revealed footage depicts a departure from the traditional, bright-eyed iteration of the character. Alcock is shown sitting in a field clad in jeans, a heavy coat, and sunglasses, appearing visibly unfazed as a large spacecraft descends violently into the background. The imagery aligns with Gunn’s previous comments regarding the film’s source material, Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which presents a more jaded and hardened version of the Kryptonian survivor.

Gunn has emphasized the narrative contrast between Kara and her cousin, Kal-El. While Superman was raised by loving parents on Earth, this iteration of Supergirl witnessed the destruction of her planet and lived on a drifting fragment of Krypton for years, observing the deaths of those around her. The film is described as a “space adventure” that will explore these traumatic origins and her journey across the galaxy.

Directed by Craig Gillespie with a script by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl is scheduled for theatrical release on June 26, 2026. The production also features Matthias Schoenaerts as the antagonist Krem of the Yellow Hills and Jason Momoa in his DC Universe debut as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo. The full trailer is expected to provide further context on the film’s visual style and the dynamic between Alcock’s Kara and the wider cosmic landscape of the new franchise.
