Lola Petticrew has secured a lead role in the upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘Assassin’s Creed’ for Netflix. The actor joins the production as a series regular, starring opposite the previously announced Toby Wallace. This casting update marks a significant progression for the project, which is being developed in partnership with Ubisoft Film & Television. The series aims to translate the sprawling mythology of the video game franchise into a serialized narrative format.

Petticrew recently gained industry recognition for their portrayal of Dolours Price in the FX limited series ‘Say Nothing’. The actor’s filmography also includes the A24 drama ‘Tuesday’, where they starred alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and the BBC police procedural ‘Bloodlands’. This new role positions Petticrew at the center of a major intellectual property expansion. While Wallace was confirmed for the project in November, specific character names and archetypes for both leads remain undisclosed by the studio.

The creative direction is helmed by showrunners Roberto Patino and David Wiener. Patino brings experience from HBO’s ‘Westworld’ and ‘DMZ’, while Wiener previously oversaw the ‘Halo’ adaptation for Paramount+. The duo has developed a screenplay that functions as a standalone narrative rather than a direct retelling of existing game storylines involving protagonists like Ezio Auditore or Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad. The production team includes executive producers from Ubisoft, ensuring the adaptation adheres to the core tenets of the source material.

The series narrative focuses on the covert war between two ancient factions: the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. The official logline establishes a conflict over the future of human evolution, with one side favoring strict control and the other fighting to preserve free will. The story will follow characters across pivotal historical events as they influence the course of history. Reports indicate that principal photography is scheduled to commence in Italy in 2026, suggesting a potential European historical setting.

Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ stands as one of the highest-grossing video game properties in history, with lifetime sales exceeding 200 million units. This live-action series operates under a comprehensive content agreement signed between Netflix and Ubisoft in 2020. The deal was structured to produce multiple adaptations, including animated projects and mobile games. This series represents the first major live-action attempt for the franchise since the 2016 theatrical film, which prompted a strategic shift toward long-form television storytelling.
