The ‘Haikyu!!’ franchise has revealed plans for a theatrical film titled ‘Haikyu!!: VS The Little Giant’. Production I.G. will animate the project under the direction of series veteran Susumu Mitsunaka. The story centers on the spring high school volleyball tournament quarterfinal matches. Karasuno High School faces off against rivals while Fukurodani Academy battles another contender.

A companion special anime titled ‘Haikyu!!: The Place Where Monsters Go’ accompanies the film release. Both projects arrive in 2027 across Japanese theaters and platforms. Official announcements emerged during Jump Festa 2026 events. Trailers showcase updated animation for returning characters including Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio.

The original ‘Haikyu!!’ television series ran four seasons from 2014 to 2020. Two compilation films recapped earlier arcs in 2015 and 2017. The 2024 two-part finale ‘Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle’ depicted the Karasuno versus Nekoma rivalry match. That release earned over 10 billion yen domestically.

Production staff returns with Mitsunaka handling screenplay and chief direction. Takahiro Kishida designs characters based on Haruichi Furudate’s manga. The series concluded its print run in 2020 after 45 volumes. Shueisha published the volleyball sports title in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 onward.

Fan accounts shared teaser visuals featuring intense rally sequences. The announcements highlight dual quarterfinal games from the national tournament arc. Karasuno’s matchup revives the “Little Giant” motif central to Hinata’s motivation. Fukurodani’s game spotlights captain Bokuto Kotaro.

The 2027 rollout extends the franchise beyond its prior finale films. International distribution details remain pending following domestic launch. Crunchyroll previously streamed seasons and handled the 2024 movie globally. The new projects continue adapting remaining manga content focused on tournament progression.
