The 83rd Golden Globe Awards will be remembered for many things, but host Nikki Glaser’s opening monologue might just top the list. Taking the stage on Sunday night, the comedian wasted no time in targeting Hollywood’s elite, and her sights eventually landed on a familiar subject: Leonardo DiCaprio’s dating life. While the topic has become a staple of award show roasts, it was DiCaprio’s unexpectedly gracious reaction that set the internet ablaze.
Glaser began by showering the acclaimed actor with praise, listing his impressive accolades to lull the audience into a false sense of security. She noted his work with legendary directors and his trophy cabinet featuring three Golden Globes and an Oscar. Then came the punchline that drew gasps from the star-studded crowd.

“I tried not to, but like, we don’t know anything else about you, man! Like, open up,” she joked. She then referenced a 1991 interview from Teen Beat magazine, asking the actor if his favorite food was still “pasta, pasta, and more pasta.”
DiCaprio, clearly amused by the deep dive into his teenage heartthrob days, nodded enthusiastically and mouthed “Yes!” from his seat. The interaction highlighted a lighter side of the actor that fans rarely get to see during his serious dramatic press tours.
DiCaprio was in attendance as a nominee for Best Actor for his role in One Battle After Another, the latest film from auteur director Paul Thomas Anderson. The movie, which was released in late 2025, sees DiCaprio starring alongside heavyweights like Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, and Regina Hall. Described as a contemporary crime thriller with elements of dark comedy, the film marks a significant departure from the period pieces DiCaprio has favored in recent years.

Rumored to be a loose adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, the film allowed DiCaprio to step into a role that critics have called his most “commercial yet complex” performance in over a decade. Looking ahead, DiCaprio shows no signs of slowing down. Industry insiders are already buzzing about his potential re-teaming with Martin Scorsese for a biopic about Frank Sinatra, as well as a long-gestating adaptation of The Wager. However, for one night at least, the focus wasn’t on his cinematic achievements, but on his ability to take a joke about his personal life with a smile.
