Hajime Isayama, the mastermind behind Attack on Titan, has collaborated with the Star Wars franchise by creating an official illustration for the upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu. This highly anticipated movie is set to hit theaters worldwide on May 22.

The artwork features the Mandalorian engaged in a battle scene while carrying Grogu. Alongside the illustration, Isayama shared a handwritten message. Several other manga creators, including George Morikawa, Oh! great, Ken Wakui, and Atsushi Ohkubo, also contributed their thoughts to the project.

This film continues the expansive Star Wars narrative, centering on the Mandalorian, a bounty hunter, and Grogu, a young character endowed with powerful Force abilities.

Isayama also shared his personal memories of discovering Star Wars and its significance to him. He reminisced, “My first encounter with Star Wars was when I was shown Episodes 6 → 5 → 4 during a homestay in Idaho. The biological feel of mold and dust drifting inside inorganic spaceships—that contrast was what gave me a sense of real life within Star Wars. Above all, Grogu is just too cute, I can’t get enough of him.”

Other creators expressed their admiration for the franchise as well.

George Morikawa discussed how Star Wars has influenced him throughout the years, noting that the films continue to inspire him whenever he watches them in theaters.

Oh! great emphasized the visual aspects of the series, highlighting the iconic machines and designs that left a lasting impression on him as a child and continue to shape his manga work today. He also expressed a desire for new viewers to experience the series for the first time again.

Ken Wakui shared his excitement for the new film, particularly enjoying the character relationships in Star Wars, especially the master-student dynamics. He expressed eagerness to see the new story unfold.

Atsushi Ohkubo conveyed his love for lightsabers, especially the blue ones, stating they significantly influenced his perception of visual storytelling. He also voiced his support for Grogu, even imagining the character wielding a lightsaber in the future.

Hajime Isayama is renowned for Attack on Titan, which ran from 2009 to 2021. The manga achieved global success and was adapted into an anime series that concluded with a final set of special episodes, followed by a film version featuring enhanced visuals and sound.

The franchise remains vibrant, with its final movie performing well in theaters and subsequently becoming available on streaming platforms. Producers have hinted at more projects and collaborations currently in development.

This exciting crossover showcases the intersection of two immensely popular worlds. It highlights how Star Wars continues to inspire creators across generations. What are your thoughts on Hajime Isayama’s artwork for Star Wars? Share your opinions in the comments.
