Sydney Sweeney has once again become a hot topic following the latest episode of Euphoria season 3, where her character Cassie’s wedding attire featured several moments that seemed like wardrobe malfunctions.

These scenes quickly captured the audience’s attention, but behind the viral moments lay a deliberate creative choice. Costume designer Natasha Newman-Thomas discussed this in an interview with InStyle, clarifying that the effect was not accidental. Instead, it was a planned aspect of the character’s design.

She revealed that during both filming and rehearsals, similar “slips” occurred with the dress. Rather than correcting them in a conventional manner, the team opted to incorporate them into the final look. According to her, Sydney Sweeney was not tightly taped into the dress intentionally, allowing those moments to unfold naturally on screen.

Newman-Thomas also mentioned that they adapted their costume approach in response. They crafted custom coverings using matching beaded fabric so the look would still appear designed yet slightly imperfect. The goal was to maintain control while avoiding an overly polished appearance.

The costume designer emphasized that this choice was closely linked to Cassie’s character. She described the dress as intended to feel beautiful and dramatic, yet a bit messy at the edges, reflecting Cassie’s emotional state and personality.

She also highlighted that the intention was not merely for shock value. The outfit was designed to mirror who Cassie is at this stage in the story, encompassing her unstable emotions and how she presents herself in high-pressure situations.

Season 3 of Euphoria has already ignited significant discussion surrounding Cassie’s storyline. Her character has taken a controversial path, including launching an OnlyFans career and using that income to help finance her wedding. Some of her earlier outfits this season have also sparked online backlash and debate.

The series continues to elicit strong reactions from viewers, especially in scenes involving Cassie and Nate’s relationship.

This bold creative choice, even if it feels uncomfortable for some viewers, clearly illustrates the meticulous detail that goes into aligning costume design with character psychology in this show.
