Colin Jost Shares Scarlett Johansson’s Reaction Text After Staten Island Ferry Purchase
Colin Jost recently revealed how his wife Scarlett Johansson responded when he informed her about his unique acquisition of a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry, which he purchased alongside Pete Davidson.
During the upcoming May 4 episode of the SmartLess podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, Jost discussed how he first broke the news to his family after finalizing the deal in 2022.
He mentioned that the ferry was bought for approximately $280,000 and holds personal significance for him, as he used to ride it during his school days. Jost views the purchase as more than just a quirky investment; he believes it can be transformed into a functional space.
When it came to sharing the news with his family, Jost noted that his father reacted in a typical teacher-like manner. His dad asked, “Did you do your homework?” before Jost revealed that he had already made the purchase.
He then texted Johansson with the update, saying, “Guess what? We own a ferry now,” to which she promptly responded, “We?”
Jost explained that the rationale behind the purchase was rooted in real estate thinking, suggesting that a docked ferry in Manhattan could serve as a large space with various uses, including events and entertainment.
He also countered claims that the ferry has been a financial failure, stating that it has already hosted events and has begun to recoup some of the initial investment.
Together with Davidson and comedy club owner Paul Italia, Jost bought the ferry and has utilized it for various public events, including a fashion show.
Jost has previously acknowledged that this purchase was not a conventional choice for him, describing it as one of the most unusual financial decisions he has made. Nonetheless, he aims to develop it into something sustainable and valuable rather than merely a novelty.
Pete Davidson has also commented on the ferry, noting that the group continues to brainstorm ideas for its future and is collaborating with engineers and maritime experts to explore its potential.
