Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming romantic comedy ‘Office Romance,’ marking Jennifer Lopez’s return to a genre she is renowned for. The film features Lopez alongside actor Brett Goldstein in a narrative that explores themes of love, work, and the risks involved.

The story centers on Jackie Cruz, portrayed by Lopez, a high-powered CEO at a prominent company. Her life takes an unexpected twist when she becomes romantically involved with Daniel Blanchflower, a new employee played by Goldstein. Their relationship begins in secrecy and intensifies despite the mounting pressures of their workplace.

At the core of the narrative is a pivotal choice the couple faces: to stop concealing their feelings and pursue what they desire, even if it jeopardizes their careers.

Director Ol Parker shared insights about the project with PEOPLE, noting the immediate connection between the lead actors. He remarked that their chemistry was evident even before filming began during an early lunch meeting. He stated, “I had lunch with them way before we began, and we just laughed all the way through the lunch, and I was like, ‘Oh, this is gonna go great,”

The film features a supporting cast that includes Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Amy Sedaris, Edward James Olmos, and Bradley Whitford.

According to the director, this film adopts a slightly bolder tone compared to Lopez’s previous romantic comedies. He mentioned that it pushes the boundaries of what audiences might expect from her earlier work, with Lopez embracing a more daring take on the genre.

Lopez expressed that the script immediately caught her attention, describing it as a romantic comedy infused with a modern sensibility and sharper humor. She said, “It is a com rom! It’s a classic romance, with modern, edgier humor,” adding that it feels fresh and highly relevant to today’s viewers.

She also noted that despite her busy schedule with other projects, she made time for this film because she believed in its story and wanted to be involved.

Goldstein, who co-wrote the script with Joe Kelly, mentioned that the idea of casting Lopez emerged early in the writing phase. He said, “We started asking ourselves who the best rom-com star is, and without hesitation, we both said JLo,” emphasizing that the role was tailored for her.

Lopez elaborated on her character, stating that Jackie is highly career-focused and not seeking distractions. She acknowledged that while she understands ambition, her personal life balance differs from that of her character.

‘Office Romance’ is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 5.

This film holds significant promise as Jennifer Lopez has a strong association with the romantic comedy genre, and her pairing with Brett Goldstein introduces a fresh dynamic. The workplace romance premise also adds inherent conflict, potentially enriching the story if executed well.
