‘Euphoria’ Fans React to Disturbing Scene—Some Admitted to Fast Forwarding
Certain TV shows are renowned not only for their narratives but also for the strong reactions they evoke online. In recent years, social media has become a platform where viewers share their shock, admiration, or frustration in real time while watching new episodes as they air.
One series that frequently ignites such conversations is ‘Euphoria’. Viewer reactions shared across platforms like Reddit and reported in entertainment news indicate that the latest season has once again sparked intense discussions following a recent episode that aired on Sunday, May 3.
This episode introduced a new character named Kitty, portrayed by Anna Van Patten. Within the storyline, Kitty works at a strip club where Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, is also involved, adding complexity to her difficult circumstances. The club setting serves as the backdrop for one of the most talked-about moments of the episode.
In a particular scene, Kitty is taken into a private room with a group of men, and the situation escalates in a way that left many viewers feeling unsettled. Rue observes parts of the unfolding events through security monitors in the club, adding another layer of tension as she watches in shock.
At one point, after the encounter, Rue asks Kitty if she is being coerced into her work. Kitty, appearing visibly shaken, responds, “I like to dance.” This line has sparked widespread discussion among viewers, many of whom felt it added emotional depth and confusion to the scene.
Following the episode’s airing, social media quickly filled with reactions. One Reddit user remarked, “The scene with the stripper … and the group of men was just so terribly disturbing and sad.” Another viewer expressed, “It made me feel sick.” A third added, “I had to fast forward through it, too hard to watch.” These reactions circulated widely, contributing to the episode trending in discussions.
However, not all responses were negative. Some viewers defended the creative choice, arguing it was intended to reflect a harsh reality within the show’s universe. One Reddit user stated that depicting difficult situations was crucial for the narrative, describing it as a “necessary narrative device for the wider story.”
Anna Van Patten also shared her thoughts on filming the scene in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She noted that while the material was challenging, she felt supported during production. “I’m fortunate in that I’ve never been in Kitty’s situation, but yeah, it was tough. It’s sad and it’s dark, but it serves a purpose in the greater story,” she explained.
She also added, “And luckily, I had so many people there to support me through it. There was an intimacy coordinator, and you’re surrounded by the crew and the cast, and everyone was being very delicate. So, I felt like I could go to a darker place and put myself in Kitty’s shoes. Then I went home and took a shower and washed it off.”
This episode has emerged as one of the most discussed parts of the season thus far. Some fans believe the series is pushing boundaries more than ever, while others argue that this has always been the show’s intent.
