New Image of Milly Alcock as Supergirl Ahead of June 26 Release Date
A fresh image from the upcoming DC Universe film ‘Supergirl’ has emerged, offering fans another early look at Milly Alcock in the iconic role.
The film is part of DC Studios’ expanding lineup and is currently set for a theatrical release on June 26, as confirmed by Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios materials.
Directed by Craig Gillespie and penned by Ana Nogueira, this project marks the second official film in the new DC Universe, spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Alcock portrays Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, a character intricately linked to Superman but with a distinct personal history and perspective.
The narrative follows Kara as she journeys across space with her dog Krypto. During her travels, she encounters a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll. This meeting leads to a tragedy that propels Kara into a violent quest fueled by revenge, according to the film’s official premise shared by the studio.
The film has undergone various development phases. A Supergirl project was initially discussed in 2018 under the former DC Extended Universe plan. The character was briefly introduced in 2023’s ‘The Flash’, portrayed by Sasha Calle. Following leadership changes at DC Studios in 2022, the project was revamped into a new version based on the comic miniseries ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
Casting and production progressed in 2023 and 2024. Milly Alcock was selected for the lead role in early 2024, with Craig Gillespie coming on board as director shortly thereafter. Filming took place between January and May 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England, along with locations in London and Scotland.
Alongside Alcock, the cast features Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, a menacing leader of a space criminal organization, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham portray Kara’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze. David Corenswet appears as Superman, and Jason Momoa takes on the role of Lobo, a space bounty hunter. Other supporting roles include Ferdinand Kingsley, Diarmaid Murtagh, and the return of Krypto the Superdog.
James Gunn has characterized this iteration of Supergirl as a more hardened and emotionally complex character compared to Superman. He has described her as “pixie-ish, but very attitudinal,” while also noting that she is depicted as an antihero in this narrative. This tone is expected to differentiate her from previous portrayals of the character.
The film is part of DC Studios’ “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” slate. According to Warner Bros., it aims to broaden the new shared universe and introduce a different tone for Kryptonian storytelling within the franchise.
With production now wrapped and post-production in progress, the newly released image heightens anticipation for how this version of Supergirl will be showcased on the big screen when it debuts in 2026.
