Joe Russo Reveals His Favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe ‘Avengers’ Film
Joe Russo has shared exciting insights about Marvel’s upcoming film, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, emphasizing how this project distinguishes itself from his previous work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While discussing the film, Russo expressed that it has become his top pick among all the Marvel films he has been involved with. He remarked, “If you’re going to come back, you’ve got to make sure that you’re going to meet expectations.” He acknowledged the immense pressure following the success of ‘Endgame’, stating, “It’s just another movie. But I’ve got to be honest, I feel like Doomsday is my favorite of the bunch.”
Russo also teased that ‘Doomsday’ will have a different feel compared to earlier Avengers narratives. He noted that the tone of the film sets it apart significantly. “And I’m ecstatic that it all worked out, because it’s got something that the other movies don’t have, in a way. There’s a tone to it that is really unique.”
The film is anticipated to play a crucial role in the MCU’s future, introducing a significant new threat with Doctor Doom at the forefront. Robert Downey Jr. will portray the character, marking a surprising return to Marvel in a distinctly different role.
To prepare audiences for this new chapter, Marvel plans to re-release ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in theaters. This version will feature new scenes that directly connect to ‘Doomsday’. Russo explained the rationale behind this decision: “It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to ‘Avengers: Endgame’.”
He added that this strategy helps connect past and future narratives in a fresh manner. “It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way… It’s a really unique opportunity.”
These changes come after Marvel adjusted its long-term plans, shifting away from its previous trajectory to build toward a new storyline centered around Doom.
By calling ‘Doomsday’ his favorite project, Russo sets high expectations, suggesting that the film could introduce something novel to the MCU, especially following the triumph of earlier Avengers films. Fans will be eager to see if it truly fulfills that promise. What are your thoughts on this new direction for Marvel and Russo’s comments? Share your opinions in the comments.
