Stanley Tucci has expressed his willingness to reprise his role in a potential third ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ film, but only if the storyline is compelling.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter while promoting “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” Tucci discussed the possibility of stepping back into the shoes of Nigel and whether he envisions returning in the future.

“I love playing this character. He’s so incredibly satisfying to play,” Tucci shared.

He emphasized that both he and the filmmakers would only consider moving forward with another sequel if the script is strong enough.

“But in the end, I think for all of us, including the director and the writer, it really depends on the script,” he noted. “If it makes sense, yeah, sure. If it doesn’t make sense? Probably not.”

Tucci mentioned that one of the reasons he was eager to return for the second film was that Nigel had remained relatively unchanged over the years. He pointed out that the character is still working at Runway magazine and maintains a close connection with Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly.

“There had been very little movement career-wise,” Tucci remarked about Nigel. He added that despite the betrayal depicted in the first film, Nigel and Miranda still rely on one another.

“They need each other. It’s a sort of perfect symbiotic relationship,” he explained.

The sequel also delves into significant issues within the fashion and media landscape, such as AI and the decline of traditional journalism. Tucci appreciated that the film’s narrative extends beyond mere fashion and glamorous attire.

“There are a lot of odds stacked against journalists now, magazines [and] newspapers because of AI [and] our phones,” he stated. “The lack of a need for in-depth content is starting to disappear. I like that the story of the film addresses that.”

Tucci also warned that AI could significantly impact the future of jobs and the media industry.

“A huge number of jobs are just going to be gone,” he stated during the interview.

In addition to the movie, Tucci is collaborating with TJ Maxx on a new advertising campaign inspired by one of Nigel’s lines in the sequel. In the film, Nigel humorously remarks, “Look what TJ Maxx dragged in,” when Anne Hathaway’s Andy returns to Runway magazine.

Tucci shared that he found the joke amusing right from the moment he read it in the script.

“I laughed straight away when I read it!” he recalled.
