Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins Reunite as Their ‘Supernatural’ Characters in ‘The Boys’
More than five years after ‘Supernatural’ concluded, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins came together on-screen for the first time.
The episode, which premiered on April 29, showcases Ackles’ Soldier Boy traveling to Los Angeles with Homelander, culminating at the mansion of Mister Marathon, played by Padalecki, where they encounter a host of celebrity cameos engaged in a poker game. This moment marked a significant crossover of two cherished franchises created by the same visionary.
Eric Kripke, who was the creative force behind the initial five seasons of ‘Supernatural’, has incorporated familiar faces from the series into ‘The Boys’ in various roles. However, the reunion of the three most iconic stars of the show signified something much deeper than mere nostalgia.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jensen Ackles expressed his nerves about having his co-stars on set, noting their nearly two-decade-long friendship. He likened watching Collins and Padalecki perform to observing his child play, stating they excelled and described the scenes he shot with them as ‘disgusting’ and ‘outrageous’.
According to Deadline, Ackles mentioned there was a ‘minor mental adjustment’ in collaborating with Padalecki and Collins in a different setting, complete with new costumes, crew, and cast compared to their time on the CW series from 2005 to 2020.
The actor elaborated that the unusual aspect was performing in this new context, but he emphasized that he, Padalecki, and Collins portrayed different versions of themselves on ‘Supernatural’ for 15 years, making it easier to play different characters together. The chemistry among the three was undeniable, with many takes interrupted by their inability to maintain composure during filming.
Padalecki portrays Mister Marathon, a speedster supe who has fallen from grace in the Seven and now runs a dubious operation involving black market V1, while Collins plays Malchemical, a supe capable of exhaling toxic gases. Both characters represent a departure from the roles fans are accustomed to, with the actors rising to the challenge and holding their own against the ensemble.
The reunion was not merely fan service, but a narrative blend of dark comedy that pays tribute to both the actors and the tone of the series.
As ‘The Boys’ prepares to air its series finale on May 20, Jensen Ackles will continue his role as Soldier Boy in the upcoming prequel ‘Vought Rising’, set to premiere on Prime Video in 2027. For fans who dedicated 15 years to watching these three actors in ‘Supernatural’, this unexpected reunion serves as a poignant reminder of the familial bonds formed throughout a generation of television.
