‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Has Secret Characters as Alan Cumming Reveals New Insights
Alan Cumming has revealed that Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Doomsday still features characters that remain undisclosed, adding to the intrigue surrounding an already extensive superhero ensemble.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Cumming shared that the production employed fake or concealed names for certain roles to prevent spoilers. He noted that this approach created confusion during filming, particularly with the multitude of characters involved.
“Sometimes there were secret names because they didn’t want to reveal that a certain character was returning, so they called them something else in the script. It was so confusing,” he explained in his interview with Deadline.
Cumming described the film as being densely packed with superheroes, stating that it felt overwhelming at times. He emphasized that the sheer scale of the project makes it challenging to keep track of all the action.
He referred to the movie as “superhero soup,” adding, “there’s so many of them in it. I just can’t keep up.” Despite the chaos, Cumming reported a positive experience on set, noting it was a significant improvement from his earlier work on X2, which he described as a “very, very wrong” working environment.
Avengers: Doomsday already boasts a substantial list of confirmed characters, including the Fantastic Four team, members of the Thunderbolts, several X-Men characters from previous films, and key figures from Black Panther. Returning heroes from the core Avengers lineup are also anticipated, featuring Thor, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson as Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
However, many significant characters remain unconfirmed. Speculation surrounds names such as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and Halle Berry’s Storm, among others.
The film’s increasing buzz coincides with comments from Robert Downey Jr., who recently expressed his views against the notion that influencers will replace traditional movie stars. Speaking on the Conversations for our Daughters podcast, he strongly dismissed the idea.
“When I hear people talk about, ‘Oh, the stars of the future are going to be influencers,’ I go, ‘I don’t know what world you’re living in, but I think that that is absolute horses—,” Downey Jr. stated.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18.
