‘KPop Demon Hunters’ continues to thrive on Netflix as it nears its one-year anniversary. The film has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 1 billion viewing hours globally on the platform. Additionally, there are indications that it may return to theaters soon.

This latest information comes from Netflix’s viewing statistics and industry reports that monitor streaming performance weekly.

According to these figures, the film had a solid but unremarkable debut in June 2025, garnering 15.4 million hours viewed in its opening week. While it secured second place, there were no signs at that time that it would evolve into a global sensation.

However, things took a turn. In its second week, viewership surged by 162 percent, jumping to 40.3 million hours watched and clinching the top spot on Netflix’s global charts. Unlike most releases, the film maintained its momentum, consistently achieving over 37 million hours watched for an extended period.

The film peaked in its eleventh week, reaching 50.2 million hours watched. Even after this high point, it continued to perform well, still attracting 23.3 million hours by week 20 and remaining near the top of the global charts.

Over time, its performance has been notably stable. While most Netflix films drop out of the top rankings within weeks, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ remained in the global Top 10 for 46 weeks, spending 9 weeks at number one and 29 weeks in the Top 3. As of its 46th week, it still ranks number 5 worldwide with 6.5 million hours watched.

The data reveals a rare trend for streaming platforms: the film is not quickly fading from view. Even after nearly a year, it retains about 42 percent of its initial audience levels, a slow decline that is atypical for Netflix releases, which usually see a significant drop in viewership within the first couple of months.

There were also minor boosts in viewership during the holiday season. Around weeks 28 and 29, the film experienced increases rather than declines, indicating it became a family favorite during that time.

In addition to its streaming success, there may be another theatrical run on the horizon. Cineworld, a UK cinema chain, announced it will be bringing back the sing-along version of the film in theaters ahead of its one-year anniversary in June. This marks the third time the film has returned to cinemas in some capacity.

While no official wide theatrical re-release has been confirmed, especially outside the UK, this listing has sparked speculation that Netflix might be planning another limited release as part of the anniversary celebration.

The film’s sustained popularity has also led to further expansion beyond streaming. Netflix has confirmed that a sequel is in the works, although it is expected to take several years to materialize. Additionally, there are reports of more content being developed, including an official art book and a comic book adaptation.

With a sequel on the way, ongoing merchandise releases, and impressive long-term streaming numbers, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ has transcended the typical Netflix release. Even nearly a year later, it remains one of the platform’s most-watched titles globally and continues to expand in ways that most streaming films do not.
