Judith Light Confirms Role in ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’
Judith Light is making her mark in the Marvel universe by taking on a significant role in the upcoming special ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’.
This project continues the journey of Frank Castle within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, introducing him to new challenges revolving around crime, revenge, and survival. This information has been confirmed through announcements from Marvel Studios and updates related to the production.
Light will portray Ma Gnucci, a character deeply connected to the darker aspects of Marvel Comics. In her remarks about the role, she hinted at the emotional layers of the story and what viewers can anticipate. “I think people will be surprised. I think they will really appreciate it… This is really about transformation and what it means to be a person who holds on to revenge.”
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and co-written by Jon Bernthal and Green, the special is produced by Marvel Studios for Disney+ and is part of Phase Six of the MCU. It also continues Frank Castle’s storyline following his reappearance in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’.
Jon Bernthal reprises his role as Frank Castle, a man grappling with the trauma of losing his family while striving to escape his violent past. The narrative centers on his efforts to lead a quieter life, only to be drawn back into conflict as a new criminal empire emerges. Jason R. Moore returns as Curtis Hoyle, Castle’s close friend who helps him maintain his grounding.
Judith Light’s casting introduces a new dimension to the storyline, particularly given Ma Gnucci’s reputation in the comics as a formidable and ruthless character. Her involvement indicates that the conflict in the special will challenge Castle on a deeply personal and psychological level, beyond mere physical confrontations.
Filming for ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ took place in New York City, commencing in mid-2025 and concluding shortly thereafter. The project was initiated following Bernthal’s confirmed return to the MCU and was later developed into a full special presentation under Marvel Television.
The special is set to premiere on May 12, and it is anticipated to be one of the darker entries in the current MCU lineup. It continues Marvel’s emphasis on street-level narratives while delving into the repercussions faced by characters like Frank Castle as they confront the costs of their revenge-driven lives.
