The ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 2 finale didn’t just conclude a storyline; it dramatically altered the landscape. Matt Murdock entered the courtroom as a defense attorney and exited in handcuffs after revealing his identity as Daredevil to protect Karen Page, leaving Hell’s Kitchen in shock and Charlie Cox’s iconic character imprisoned.

With the dust settling, anticipation builds for what lies ahead. Marvel Studios has confirmed a third season, with filming already underway for several months. Insights from set photos and interviews with the showrunner suggest a clear direction for the upcoming season. Here’s everything we know about ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 3 so far.

When ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 Hits Disney Plus

The third season was officially announced on September 18, 2025, even before the premiere of season 2. Marvel has committed to making ‘Born Again’ an annual event, locking the release pattern to March each year.

Based on this schedule, season 3 is set to debut on Disney+ in March 2027 as part of Phase Six of the MCU. Principal photography commenced on March 17, 2026, under the working title “Out the Kitchen,” with filming expected to conclude in July.

Showrunner Dario Scardapane confirmed this timeline, stating to Entertainment Weekly, “I’m writing the finale right now. We wrap in early July at this point.” The episode count is anticipated to be between eight and nine, mirroring previous seasons.

The Cast Returning For The Defenders Reunion

Charlie Cox returns as Matt Murdock, alongside Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter, Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Arty Froushan as Buck Cashman, and Zabryna Guevara as Sheila Rivera.

The exciting news is the return of Mike Colter and Finn Jones as Luke Cage and Danny Rand, joining Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. This marks the Defenders’ reunion on screen for the first time since their Netflix days.

Royce Johnson is also expected to reprise his role as Detective Brett Mahoney, teasing his return on Instagram with a post saying, “Suit up time, Detective Mahoney.” According to industry rumors, the first half of season 3 will resemble ‘Defenders 2’, focusing on Jessica, Luke, and Danny while Matt is incarcerated.

When Variety inquired about the leaked photos of the trio, Scardapane humorously remarked, “Oh, yes. I guess those guys were hanging out playing D&D in some black robes. I’m not exactly sure what that’s about.”

What We Know About The ‘Born Again’ Season 3 Story

The narrative direction is familiar to comic fans. Season 3 will loosely adapt the ‘The Devil in Cell Block D’ storyline from Ed Brubaker’s acclaimed comic series, which chronicles Matt’s harrowing experiences in a maximum-security prison after his identity is revealed.

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, shared with ScreenRant that the new season will commence after a brief time jump. He noted, “There will be a small time jump, but it’s not too significant. It’s not like we’re jumping ahead five years or anything. We’re probably jumping ahead a year or so, kind of like the real-life distance between seasons.”

Scardapane has hinted at a significant tonal shift, aiming to return to the gritty, street-level storytelling reminiscent of Frank Miller’s Daredevil comics following the conclusion of the Mayor Fisk storyline in season two. Executive producer Sana Amanat expressed the writers’ desire to create a season that feels “more stripped-down, back-to-basics” for Matt Murdock.

With the death of Foggy Nelson in season 1, the role of vulnerable ally may now shift to Karen Page. Scardapane teased a new dimension to Cox’s character, describing it as “feral” in a recent interview with Variety.

The New Villains Stalking Hell’s Kitchen

Wilson Fisk returns, but not in a recognizable form. After being offered a deal for exile during the season 2 showdown, Fisk is now undercover to evade capture by the police.

The most significant new threat is Heather Glenn, who donned the Muse mask in the closing moments of season 2. Scardapane explained the decision to revive this villain through one of the original killer’s victims, stating, “This was a weird one because it had to do with a plot line that we inherited, that I felt we didn’t do justice to.” He added that Heather has begun to blur the lines between vigilantes and serial killers, becoming a spokesperson for Fisk.

Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye is also making a comeback. In the season 2 finale, he aligned himself with Mr. Charles, and Scardapane confirmed that both Mr. Charles, portrayed by Matthew Lillard, and Bullseye remain integral to the show’s expanding universe, emphasizing that anyone alive at the end of season 2 could return.

After two seasons filled with political drama, courtroom battles, and shocking losses, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is set to challenge Matt Murdock with the one trial he cannot argue against. Are you more eager to see Charlie Cox navigate a prison full of criminals he helped imprison, or to witness Jessica, Luke, and Danny finally unite as the Defenders in a sequel we missed during the Netflix era?
