Euphoria Season 3 Sparks Debate Over Sydney Sweeney’s Shocking Macrophilia Scene
In the latest episodes of ‘Euphoria’, viewers have been reacting strongly to some of the most explicit and unusual scenes the show has ever presented.
Season 3 of the series has pushed the narrative into even more extreme territory. Rue is depicted as a drug runner, Cassie has ventured into the world of OnlyFans content, Nate is facing violent consequences from criminal debts, and Jules is now involved in escort work. These storylines have contributed to a season that feels much darker and more chaotic than its predecessors.
One of the most talked-about moments occurs in Episode 5, featuring Sydney Sweeney as Cassie. The scene showcases her in a fantasy sequence linked to a fetish known as macrophilia. In this episode, Cassie appears as a giant version of herself, towering over a man and engaging with him in a manner that embodies this specific kink.

Macrophilia, often referred to as the “giantess kink,” is a sexual fantasy where individuals are aroused by the concept of someone being extremely large or giant-sized. Typically, this fantasy involves power dynamics, where the smaller individual feels overwhelmed, dominated, or intrigued by the notion of being controlled by a much larger figure.
Sexuality experts have indicated that this kink is more prevalent than many might think. According to sociologist Sarah Melancon, PhD, a clinical sexologist, “Macrophilia is a term describing sexual fantasies related to giant persons, whether male (giant) or female (giantess)… if we consider how often giant and giantess-type stories appear in our culture, it isn’t surprising that some people find these themes erotic.”
Another expert, Pam Shaffer, MFT, elaborated on the emotional aspect of the fantasy, stating, “It centres around the erotic feeling of being ‘helpless’ as the giantess dominates those beneath her, forcing them into sexual slavery or crushing them with her strength.”
In the episode, Cassie’s transformation into a giant woman is not intended to be a literal science fiction representation. Rather, it serves as a visual metaphor for the fantasy world associated with her online adult content career. The show employs this surreal imagery to illustrate how her work on platforms like OnlyFans is leading her deeper into extreme and performative content.
The scene quickly gained traction online, with many fans labeling it as one of the most shocking moments of the season thus far. It has also ignited discussions regarding how far the show is willing to explore sexual themes and psychological storytelling.
Behind the scenes, Sydney Sweeney remarked that the sequence required significant production effort. In a behind-the-scenes interview shared by HBO, she expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “The Cassie-Zilla sequence was probably the coolest thing I’ve ever done.”
The creative team behind the series also discussed the technical aspects of the scene. Director of photography Marcell Rév noted that they drew inspiration from classic giant monster films like ‘Godzilla’, while showrunner Sam Levinson mentioned that constructing the miniature sets took nearly a year of preparation.
Sweeney further explained her character’s trajectory, indicating that Cassie is fully conscious of the choices she makes in her quest for fame and attention, even when those choices carry consequences.
Episodes of ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 are currently streaming on HBO Max, and the show continues to provoke debate over its bold and often controversial storytelling choices.
