One of the most popular animated series on YouTube is officially set to make its cinematic debut. ‘Masha and the Bear,’ the immensely successful children’s show enjoyed by millions globally, is heading to the big screen with creator Oleg Kuzovkov at the helm of the project.

As per the latest announcements regarding the production, Kuzovkov will produce the first original feature film inspired by the beloved animated franchise after recently reclaiming creative control over the characters. To advance the project, he has established a new company named Studio MiM, which operates out of both Los Angeles and Moscow.

This movie will signify a new beginning for the franchise. Studio MiM has stated that the upcoming film will present a “rebooted vision” of the characters while retaining the humor and warmth that endeared the original show to families and children around the world.

‘Masha and the Bear’ has evolved into a global online phenomenon over the years, particularly on YouTube. One episode, titled “Recipe for Disaster,” skyrocketed in popularity and currently holds the record as the most-watched non-music video in YouTube history, boasting over 4.6 billion views.

Kuzovkov was instrumental in developing the franchise in 2008, collaborating with a team of animators, composer Vasily Bogatirev, and sound engineer Boris Kutnevich, who also lends his voice to the Bear character. The series quickly transcended its initial audience and became one of the most recognized animated brands online.

Now, Kuzovkov expresses that transforming the story into a full-length movie is both thrilling and emotional for him. “I’m truly touched by this opportunity to expand the world of ‘Masha and the Bear’ to its first long-form feature,” he remarked.

He also shared the significance of maintaining the same spirit that fans have come to adore. “It’s an exciting creative challenge – one that I wholeheartedly embrace – and my wonderfully creative and excited team is equally energized and eager to bring it to life with the same spirit, humor, and heart that made the old series so beloved,” Kuzovkov elaborated.

The production team aims to finalize the movie pipeline by the end of 2028, with aspirations that the feature film could pave the way for a larger movie franchise in the future.

This project comes on the heels of the expiration of Kuzovkov’s licensing agreement with Animaccord, the company previously associated with the series. With the rights now back in his hands, the creator is steering a new direction for the iconic animated world while still honoring the original version that propelled ‘Masha and the Bear’ to worldwide acclaim.
