Florence Pugh Stars as Cathy Ames in ‘East of Eden’ Limited Series Release Date Revealed
The highly anticipated limited series adaptation of ‘East of Eden’ now has an official release window. Netflix has confirmed that the show will premiere in Fall, accompanied by a newly unveiled poster.
This seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel is being developed as a major prestige drama for the streaming platform. Production has been underway for several years, with filming initially taking place in New Zealand before transitioning into post-production.
Zoe Kazan leads the project as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. She has expressed a deep personal connection to the material, particularly given her family’s ties to the earlier film adaptation directed by her grandfather, Elia Kazan. Kazan previously stated, “In the process of bringing this family saga to life, the resonance of my own familial connection to the material has not been lost on me.”
This new interpretation of ‘East of Eden’ centers on the Trask family but shifts the narrative focus compared to previous adaptations. Rather than presenting a broad family saga, the series delves deeper into the character of Cathy Ames, one of the novel’s most intricate figures.
Florence Pugh portrays Cathy and also serves as an executive producer on the project. The series aims to explore her character more thoroughly, using her perspective as a key element of the storyline.

The cast features Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, Hoon Lee as Lee, Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask, Martha Plimpton as Faye, Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton, Joseph Zada as Cal Trask, and Joe Anders as Aron Trask.
Behind the scenes, Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart co-produce the series, with Stuart also serving as co-showrunner. The directing responsibilities are divided throughout the season, with Garth Davis directing the first four episodes and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre taking the helm for the final three.
Production on ‘East of Eden’ has concluded, and the series is currently in post-production as it gears up for its Fall 2026 debut. Netflix is expected to share more details, including a trailer and the exact release date, as the launch approaches.
With its impressive cast and esteemed creative team, the series is being positioned as one of Netflix’s major upcoming drama releases, reigniting interest in Steinbeck’s classic tale for a new generation.
