Marvel fans are voicing strong criticism regarding a scene from ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ after a brief clip from the Disney+ special went viral. Viewers have pointed out issues with the visual effects and sound mixing, with some likening a moment in the action sequence to graphics from older PlayStation games.

The special features Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle, the Punisher. Bernthal also co-wrote the project, which aims to bring the violent antihero back into focus ahead of his anticipated return in future Marvel narratives.

While most reactions to the special have been positive, particularly from fans seeking a darker and more grounded Marvel experience, social media quickly fixated on a rooftop scene that many believe appears unfinished.

This scene unfolds during a fierce fight in Frank Castle’s apartment building, where criminals have placed a bounty on his head. The action escalates to the roof, where Frank attempts to escape attackers by jumping off the side of the building. This brief falling shot has drawn mockery online, as many fans feel the CGI depiction of Castle looks unrealistic.

Some viewers humorously suggested that the character resembled a PlayStation 3 video game model rather than a real person. Others drew comparisons to characters from video games like ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto.’ Numerous social media users shared memes and clips, turning the four-second moment into a major talking point surrounding the special.

Reports indicate that fans were also dissatisfied with aspects of the audio mixing, claiming certain scenes sounded uneven or poorly balanced. Although many viewers appreciated the action and violent tone of the project, the technical complaints have continued to circulate online.

A report from The Hollywood Reporter later countered claims that the rooftop scene was entirely created with unfinished CGI. An unnamed source close to the production revealed that the stunt was mostly filmed live, with Bernthal performing the initial part of the fall before a stunt performer completed the larger drop.

The source explained to The Hollywood Reporter that visual effects were primarily utilized for face replacement work.

“Bernthal performed the beginning of the fall, and his stuntman took over for the impact shot,” the source stated. “There is some VFX, however, which might explain some of the wonkiness — the stuntman’s face was swapped for Bernthal’s.”

Despite this clarification, many fans online still feel the scene appears incomplete. Some viewers are now speculating whether Marvel and Disney+ might discreetly update the shot later, a move streaming platforms have made in the past when addressing mistakes or controversial scenes that gained traction online.

Regardless of the backlash, the special has succeeded in reigniting interest in Frank Castle. The project aimed to reintroduce casual audiences to the Punisher and remind viewers of his tragic backstory ahead of his next rumored appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For now, however, the discussion surrounding ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ centers less on its narrative and more on one awkward-looking action shot that the internet continues to scrutinize.
